Can Leverkusen afford Sancho's salary? I think he would suit playing in Italy or even going back to Dortmund on loan
I'm not old enough to remember Shilton (I was too young during Italia 90), but Pickfords definitely been the best English GK in my lifetime
He was well past his best in 1990. Elite positioning and reading of the game, but just didn't have the reflexes. Late 70s and early 80s he was as good as there's ever been.
Also down to the club they play for. Seaman played for Arsenal behind one of the all time great defences. Would he have looked as good in a generally struggling Everton team?
I actually had the "pleasure" of meeting Peter Shilton in the late 90s. Quite possibly the most boring human being I've ever talked to. Even managed to make stories about Cloughie dull.
Seaman's England career will always be tainted by the shambolic free-kick goals he conceded in crucial WC games, against Ronald Koeman (1993) and Ronaldinho (2002). From what l can recall, Pickford doesn't have any such high profile blunders to his name.
He’s seems to have done very well in the romance department so he must have something good going for him other than his obvious good looks
For the most part (thinking of John Burridge in particular for the latter), but Jimmy Montgomery is one of the nicest and most genuine ex-players I've met, and a good laugh as well.
Not for England but he also let in that goal against Zaragoza in the European Cup winners Cup final ( I think it was ). Always seemed like he had lead in his boots and couldn’t jump. I guess you could say he wasn’t particularly athletic.
I had a similar encounter with him too! He was the guest of honour at this football tournament l was playing in. Tried to engage him in some football talk and he was as miserable as sin.
1646945459640868876 is not a valid tweet id Sorry. Can't let a John Burridge reference go by without sharing this classic footage of his pre-match warm-up. Mad as a box of frogs.
I've seen it first hand. He's an absolute legend. Saw him described as "a lunatic who wandered the length and breadth of the UK". For a while, he used to sleep in his full kit, shinpads and boots included, the night before a match. John Terry would be proud. He was a more than useful keeper though.

Looking back Seaman was too old for England at that 2002 WC. He was only picked, because we just didn't have anyone else to compete with him, so Sven favored an over the hill Seaman, over David James/Nigel Martyn or whoever else was playing in the Prem at the time. If Pickford gets to 41 and still starting for the national team at a WC (because there's nobody else), how should we judge him harshly for making a mistake.
To be fair he was still the number one for Arsenal who'd won the league that season (and remained their number one the season after too). He was 38 in the world cup which isn't too unusual to see keepers that age still playing at high levels. England's bigger problem that game was despite Ronaldinho getting sent off and Brazil having to play over 30 minutes with 10 men we couldn't even lay a glove on them, a really weak surrender of a performance.
