And that’s with a PL winner who are not great on English numbers and no English player in the CL final for the first time in 5 years. . I think it’s good news that Newcastle and Crystal Palace with their Heavy regular English contingent have both won trophies.
Must be the first time in a long while both cups have been won by a team who wasn’t playing in Europe that season.
Yeah I don't think Henderson is much more than a mid-table PL keeper. Fine squad player but I don't ever see him being England's number one unless things go quite wrong. He always looks like he's got a howler in him.
Whatever people think of Henderson, the simple fact is he shouldn't have been on the pitch to put in that performance yesterday. I was wanting Palace to win, but City can point to a fundamental failing of the officials almost certainly costing them.
When you consider how well this country does in relatable sports like rugby, athletics and gymnastics, it's pretty remarkable that we haven't been able to produce a world-class goalkeeper in such a long time. Maybe the disciplines that other countries excel in like water polo or handball are just more condusive to equipping their young keepers with the skills they need.
That's pretty incredible and worthy of a place in the squad. I could imagine Tuchel being the sort of guy to sub a keeper in for a shootout too. Yeah, I don't really know how the officials came to the conclusion that it wasn't a red because the ball was going away from goal when Henderson was the one who directed it there. I'm glad Palace won but that was yet another poor decision.
Direction is important when you're 40 yards out, there's defenders chasing back, and the keeper is in position. If Henderson doesn't make that move, Haaland has an open goal. Even at the angle he would have had, he's hitting the target there.
It’s probably just better training, I’m not sure those two sports help develop good goalkeepers. I imagine most footballers from countries where those two sports are popular have never played it, Serbia have won the last three Olympic golds in Men’s Water polo but are not known for great goalkeepers for example.
It's an awful decision if there was a competent official on Var he would of been sent. What he did after that was good, but he'd have been sent off 9 times out of 10.
Yeah, I’m not really sure those sports are a known factor in developing top goalies in football plus we haven’t done badly in the past for top keepers so must be a training factor or something else. Having said that, I don’t think our keepers are that bad, just seems to be about decision making which can be off, more about mentality maybe?
If the PL has some of the top management teams in world football, then sense says they bring with them the best goalkeeping coaches available. So if it's all down to training like you say, where are all these elite English keepers coming through?
Once players are elite level they not likely to progress that much. Those coaches would have to be working with teenagers and younger to really improve players.
Goalkeeping is an extremely specialist persuit, absolutely none of the sports mentioned have any real cross over. We have some good goalkeepers but none are elite. A 2nd or 3rd choice goalkeeper is a cushy job in the PL, I think someone like Brandon Austin who is very solid, would of played a lot of first team football if he was developed in another country, pathways, opportunities and job security of 2nd choices are factors, but it's probably training techniques.
Jarred Gillet is normally seen as competent - UEFA have given him a VAR role at the Women’s Euros. They might be regretting that after yesterday.

Pickford, Branthwaite, McNeil and Garner start for Everton. Keane, Young, Iroegbunam, Calvert-Lewin and Harrison are on the bench. Ramsdale, Harwood-Bellis, Bree, Wood, Downes, Stephens and Dibling start for Southampton. McCarthy, Archer and Robinson are on the bench. Plenty or English players for the last Men’s match at Goodison Park.
He would get a few games at Barcelona. Aurajo is a very poor defender. Curbasi is the main man. Martinez is 33. Real Madrid though you've got rudiger huijsen asensio and the Brazilian defender to come back. Forgot his name
