mendy, Hernandez, Robertson, alphonso davis, Grimaldo, nuno mendes, udogie all as good or better imo I think a fit chillwell is as good but he’s never fit
A fully fit Chilwell can't even get into an England squad half the time, he's miles off Shaw. Of those you list, I'd be confident of Hernandez starting over Shaw for whoever, the rest would depend on the manager and there's isn't that much in it I don't think, especially off the ball.
🔵⚪️⛔️ Olympique Marseille have also informed Arsenal that Eddie Nketiah deal can be considered 100% collapsed.OM didn’t want to accept €30m package after having bids rejected, despite the green light from the player.Deal off. pic.twitter.com/HFeSHYbKsB— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) August 12, 2024 Unless things change then sadly for him, looks like another wasted season on the horizon sat on Arsenals bench.
Marseille have forked out €30m for Wahi so they had the money for Nketiah, they just chose not to pay it. I said the other day I think there's a big disparity between how much Arsenal think Nketiah is worth and how much other clubs think he's worth. Him and Nelson made pretty big errors signing new deals, they're being priced out of moves while not being considered key members of the squad they're part of. Very poor situation for them. If Nketiah spends this season on the periphery at Arsenal he'll essentially get to 26 years of age having played little more than two season's worth of league minutes. Very bizarre career. EDIT: Just read Arsenal are paying Nketiah and Nelson both £100k p/w; not exactly the biggest victims then, but they still made a mistake signing new deals from a footballing perspective imo.
It’s kind of hard to imagine because I don’t earn anything like that much money and I guess it’s easy for us to say they should go somewhere else just to play but likely earn less so maybe they are just happy to sit on the bench and earn ridiculous amounts of money for little effort. I wonder if that’s just a sad reality and Arsenal are just happy to pay that money just in case they need them. It’s sad but it’s the only reason I can think of them signing new deals when clearly they won’t be first choice.
Shaw's biggest problem is getting on the pitch. In 10 years at Old Trafford he's only made 30 league appearances twice.
Yeah it's only from a footballing perspective that they made a mistake. They wouldn't have got that money anywhere else so hard to blame them too much for signing. They both desperately need to move this year though, I think when all is said and done they may well have regrets.
robertson is quicker and a better defender imo and has end product I like shaw but he’s not world class
Nelson got his contract extended one year ago, its hard to imagine based on his career so far that there was ever belief he'd be worth that contract. At no point has he even been given a chance at Arsenal so bizarre to give him a long time high wage deal. Really Arsenal should have got rid of both him and Nketiah at least a couple of seasons ago and given them large sell on clauses on their deals. At least Nketiah did get some game time, really hard to see what the plan was with Nelson.
Bournemouth are tonight being reported to be after Nketiah. Gallagher’s move fo Athletico might collapse and he would have to return to the UK and play for Chelsea’s U21’s until he is sold.
If it collapses and he has to return to Chelsea for the start of the season, I can’t imagine he will just rot in the under 21’s until the next transfer window when none of this is his fault. That would just be terrible management from Chelsea…….then again, what am I saying off course it will happen.
Someone would take him on loan late in the window. I suspect a number of Chelsea players will go out that way as a fallback for clubs who fail to get their main targets.

I’m not sure a loan would be acceptable for Chelsea. Saudi bailed Chelsea out last summer and could easily do so again.
Jarrad Branthwaite is currently out injured and might not be fit to be called up for either the seniors or u21’ s in a couple of weeks time.
Chelsea signing Palmer does feel like the infinite monkeys on infinite typewriters finally coming up with Hamlet.
Think they'll just want the wages off their books for some of them. No value in paying a dozen players millions to rot in the U23s. Can't see many of their current lot being the type that would happily go out to Saudi.
