Quansah will make it the 12th under 21 eligible player to have been called up to this squad, and 9 left in the squad itself. Not sure what the record amount named in a official UEFA squad is but I imagine we'll be pushing it (not including that COVID game Spain had to play their under 21's, anyway...). Though even with the withdrawals we should really be questioning how we've ended up in a situation where we've called 2 under 21 defenders who have started 3 premier league games between them all season. Quansah surely would have benefited from actual minutes given his club situation now he'll most likely be on the bench both games.
Yeah was gonna say this squad is fast becoming more of an U21 squad for these fixtures. Really unnecessary imo for reasons we have all stated. Not only are the seniors weaker but the U21’s has been decimated as well. They really have to rethink this strategy because these fixtures could be ugly.
The 21's are down to Cresswell, Mengi, Fisher, and Humphreys as defenders. I guess Gray could be right back as well. Not sure how much more they can juice the under 20's for replacements either, with them having 2 games. Morbidly curious about what kind of team they end the second game against the Netherlands with.
The U21’s being in Spain all week should mean no more calls ups from them and only genuine injuries causing withdrawals from them. The seniors will probably just have a smaller bench should anytime depart after the Greece match.
‘Carsley tells the press that #England focus is on the players in the camp rather than those who have pulled out. He says the number of pullouts is not unusual.’ Carsley on player pull outs: "We have a really good relationship with all of the clubs, especially the medical department. No problems" He said he does not feel personally disrespected. Sounds a bit like Carsley and the FA not happy with Kane’s comments,
Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah has been added to the England senior squad. Quansah replaces Everton's Jarrad Branthwaite who failed to overcome an injury from the weekend and will return to his club. Quansah was originally part of the MU21 squad but trained with the seniors at St. George's Park in recent days and will now come into contention for the UEFA Nations League fixtures against Greece and Republic of Ireland. The uncapped 21-year-old was first called up to the Three Lions in May.
Very talented player, hasn't really found his place in the team yet. Currently got a long term injury, annoyingly after putting in a couple of very good performances. I like him, but if I’m being honest, he’s not been that good for us on the whole so far. A little bit of a luxury player, even. Silky and smooth on the ball, but doesn’t get many G/As. I can see us selling him on for a profit in a year or two to a bigger club, and it wouldn’t surprise me if he got into the England squad for someone else. I don’t think under Iraola we play a brand of football that showcases what he’s good at.
‘It's his opinion" Lee Carsley responds to Harry Kane's comments suggesting that some of the England withdrawals are 'taking advantage' of a tough period of the season.” What a mess. Also a Jounalist just asked Carsley if Man City’s 115 charges could affect England! ‘Carsley on Kane comments: "It’s his opinion. I can only deal with what is in front of us. I think like we have said in the past that in previous (Nov) windows we have had 8-9 pull outs. The U20s and U21s have had pull outs. Fatigue and small injuries have played a part in it."’
I’m struggling to understand how City’s 115 charges will effect the England National team and @Fireburn47 were you in fact that very journalist
Lee Carsley hits back at Pep Guardiola in Man City vs England row over Jack Grealish https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/england-carsley-guardiola-grealish-injury-34104243 England star Anthony Gordon makes shock admission about club he was 'desperate' to join https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/anthony-gordon-newcastle-thomas-tuchel-34102330 Apparently Tuchel wanted Gordon to be a left wing back at Chelsea. .
Genuinely so bored of media outlets, Talksport the worst offender unsurprisingly, stoking up this completely counterproductive and snooze inducing club vs country debate every single international window. As someone who works for a multinational company where I have Italian, French, German, Brazilian and colleagues from other nationalities who I speak to and socialise with, they are baffled by our outlook and find it bizarre that we even make this a debate. We’ve turned this into a zero sum game when it is very easy for people to have the capacity to be passionate about both their sides. The most successful side in international football right now is Argentina, having won their last three tournaments. They have a rich and highly esteemed league with illustrious clubs like Boca Juniors and River Plate, who have fanbases more passionate than any English club side. Yet they will also back their national team to the hilt and have an unflinching and unwavering commitment to the cause in international football.
Curtis Jones set to start says the Guardian. https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...englands-call-as-opportunity-knocks-in-greece
Kane on the bench v Greece Carsley not giving a fcuk https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...re-club-as-he-hits-out-at-england-withdrawals
Might go as well as the last match against Greece. Honestly wouldn’t be shocked if we lose both and Ireland win both and overturn the goal difference and we end third. It be a fitting end to a circus of an autumn.
Ben White is ready to play for England again when Thomas Tuchel officially takes over, talkSPORT understands. https://talksport.com/football/2266084/ben-white-england-return-selection/
Apparently Hall, Jones and Gallagher all starting. No Gomes then. Walker or Lewis at right back presumably.
Honestly not surprised at you overreacting to one piece of news and assuming the complete worst again.
Interesting selection if it happens. Kane's been an England great but we have really struggled in these kind of games all year without someone up front to stretch the defence. Watkins is probably worth a shot in doing that, though he's usually underwhelming when he starts. Mind you given the wingers available the set up would also suit Kane's game much better anyway. By the sounds of it we're in for a much more logical line up than the home game at least. I won't be at all surprised if Jones starts over Gomes given how relentlessly the Greek team physically bullied us before. For the same reason i'd be surprised and concerned if Lewis started.
According to the Daily Mail Rico Lewis might be starting at ieft back. ‘England's possible XI (4-3-3): Pickford; Walker, Konsa, Guehi, Lewis; Jones, Gallagher; Madueke, Bellingham, Gordon; Watkins ‘ https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/f...Harry-Kane-England-drop-outs-Three-Lions.html
Lewis was so genuinely horrible against Greece in the last game it would seem almost cruel to put him there again, but we'll see I guess.... England will need to be dragged kicked and screaming to play a actual non-Shaw left back.
In March it might be Anthony Gordon at left wing back with a back three if reports are accurate tonight.
