To be fair with Ronaldo there it might just to avoid him and he overbearing nature. Plus Martinez seems a terrible manager for squad harmony..
I think now Kane has spoken out Foden and some of the others will get a lot of negative press coming his way.
Yeah, that's what he said. He probably meant that a lot of them just cba with Nations League and qualifiers tbh which is probably the case for a lot of big European players. Was Colwill not examined by the England medics at St George's? I think it's fair to say Grealish is legitimately injured.
Tbf rice is always available for England. I can only assume arteta has advised him not to go. Saka I got the feeling wasn't giving his all in the Nations League games. I don't blame him. Arteta has driven him into the ground. Foden I'm not too fussed about. I get the feeling he's given up trying to perform for England. Trent usually turns up at every squad. Grealish loves playing for England so I can assume he's definitely injured.
At least with England its not a new thing either, its always something we need to keep on top of. Southgate did a good deal to stop it though naturally it still went on to some extent. Still its one of those things for squad harmony you want to keep on top of, and if people are regularly missing squads they should expect to not be starting when they come back. I think England's depth in most positions is good enough to take a hard line on that kind of thing. I mean regardless of it being genuine or not you'd be rightfully pissed off if you turn up only to be overtaken by people in the next camps who've been missing a bunch of games and not playing well when they have been given starts, which describes most the missing players.
I like Saka a lot but I don't think its a great look he missed two of four camps last season also but then was fine to start the match after the international break. He's largely played well enough for England it wouldn't really come under the microscope like say Foden (though he's not been great this year either).
We going to get Carsley being asked at the press conference which players he think are truly injured vs which ones are maybe not. Carsley is not particularly good at press conferences so that could be fun.
At least his injuries are nearly always noticeable. Which means they just exist unkess Arsenal are going way over the top and publicly getting him to fake being injured in front of the cameras.
It’s also not a good endorsement of Carsley from Kane because he says Southgate stamped it out but Carsley let it come back - but is that coincidently or because some of the players don’t like him? Cynically I do wonder if the FA want these headlines to take away from the criticsim they have been getting over the last few days with headlines blaming them for withdrawals and for Tuchel’s late joining.
One of the things that annoys me is pundits defending the withdrawals by playing down the significance of the games. This blasé attitude towards things is one of the reasons we don’t achieve more as a sporting nation in general for a start. But also, if a player doesn’t want to turn up to camps during the season and is only interested in tournaments, why should they then be picked ahead of someone who has shown the commitment to turn up and put themselves on the line for the cause throughout. Not only is it unfair on the player who has deputised, but it also sets a dangerous precedent to other star players in the future. That you can essentially just skip England for a series of holidays during the season, and you’ll be picked anyway once the serious stuff comes around.
BREAKING: Jarrad Branthwaite will return to Everton's Finch Farm training ground after not travelling with the England squad to Greece He becomes the 9th player to withdraw from Lee Carsley's England squad So we only have 1 centre back - Harwood - Bellis on the bench unless Quansah has travelled.
This goes both ways though. People assume players are deliberately missing games without much evidence. Even returning for the next club games doesn’t prove their intentions either way. I can’t think of many players that have a pattern of history of deliberately missing lesser games.
I bet at least one of these players posts something on social media showing them recovering from an injury. For some reason Chelsea fan social media accounts are particularly unhappy with Kane’s comments more than Arsenal, Man City or Liverpool ones. I am fascinated to see where this all goes. It might all blow over or it could have longer lasting consequences
You really have to question the Branthwaite promotion. Started once recently at club level. Seemingly not fully fit when promoted.
Between Tomori, Chalobah and Kilman we have a decent array of centre backs outside the squad who are good enough to be around the fringes of the squad not just now but for the next few years also, odd not to use any of them. Presumably too late to add to the squad at this point.
What Carsley should have done is called up a more experienced defender first and not Harwood-Bellis. Then promote Harwood-Bellis after a pull out. We are digging deep into the U21 CB pool because of his first squad selection.
