The only ones who won’t are probably Ramsdale (Having surgey) and maybe Grealish. Even Trent might be back by then.

Tuchel won’t be too happy through having a play off if things go wrong instead of qualifiers or friendlies and basically a 50/50 in terms of good or bad start.

I thought foden would have been desperate to be involved. Give him the opportunity to show he can be a crucial member of the team. He's a busted flush imo and I don't think we'll miss him at all.

I am not even sure he turned up for an assessment as I can’t see any pictures of him unlike Palmer, Grealish and Colwill. There is a video on the England website with those 3 and also Trafford and Bowen but not the other 3 additions or the other 5 withdrawals.(Maybe a sign that they knew before this morning that Bowen and Trafford were needed.)

Trent seems to duck loads, especially when Liverpool are doing well.

Tbf to him he came off after 20 odd minutes against Villa. Impossible to know for certain if he's ducking or not but other guys who've dropped out played 90 minutes at the weekend.

Probably not as surprising given till recently he was at best 3rd choice right back for the most part. He did at least go off 25th minute in the match on the weekend, so he clearly has something unlike a lot of the sketchy ones of players completing an entire match/most a match before mysteriously being ok in two weeks to play 90 minutes again.

Still these Nations League games were a great opportunity for him to really make his claim as undisputed first choice right back, and I can't help but feel he didn't really make it or address the concerns, and now he's missing these games too.

It depends on James. If James is fit he will be firsf choice under Tuchel. If he is not able to play enough then Trent, Livramento or Lewis all have a good chance.

Colwill is another one at risk because Tuchel might well want Dier as one of his starting centre backs leavinf only 1 or 2 other spots.

England don't even necessarily need one of the set right backs though, the box midfield set up England ended muddling their way to for the semi-final is arguably the best way to set up England's side and maximise the strengths, minimise the weaknesses. It's more that as an alternative to TAA in the side I'd think would present as a possibility. In hindsight would have been interesting to see how it did vs Spain, but I can understand wanting traditional full backs with Spain's wing threat at the time.

It's kind of a shame we didn't actually develop on that idea. Trippier was a real weakness to it given we had zero width coming from the left, but that could have been remedied. Particularly with the emergence of Hall, and Leif Davis is taking to the league well also and probably destined for better things.

    --------------------------------------Pickford----------------------------------------
    -------------------------Guehi--------Stones------Colwill-----------------------
    ---------Saka-------------Rice--------Mainoo----------------------------Hall---
    --------------------------Palmer--------Bellingham------------------------------
    -----------------------------------Kane----------------------------------------------

Would be an interesting England side to go forward with, probably James in at right sided centre back if he returns to some sort of fitness and form. Only real doubt i'd have is Kane's suitability to the side.

England squad ravaged by eight player withdrawals
    https://www.telegraph.co.uk/footbal...uad-foden-grealish-palmer-rice-saka-withdraw/
    Show Spoiler

Lee Carsley calls up Morgan Rogers, Jarrod Bowen, Jarrad Branthwaite, Tino Livramento and James Trafford to plug the gaps

Lee Carsley has seen his final squad as England interim manager ravaged by injuries and withdrawals after eight players pulled out of the games against Greece and Republic of Ireland.

Manchester City pair Phil Foden and Jack Grealish, Arsenal duo Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka and Chelsea’s Cole Palmer and Levi Colwill have all withdrawn, along with Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold and Southampton goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.

Grealish’s withdrawal may cause some embarrassment for the Football Association and Carsley, whose claim that they were fully in contact with City and their expectation that the player would be fit was instantly rejected by Pep Guardiola.

Carsley has handed a first senior call-up to Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers and has also called Jarrod Bowen, Jarrad Branthwaite, Tino Livramento and James Trafford into his squad that now stands at 23 players for the two games.

The number of withdrawals is among the highest ever recorded and beats the six players who initially pulled out of England’s squad last November. Bowen’s withdrawal between the Malta and North Macedonia games took that tally to seven in 2023 and it remains to be seen whether more players are forced to drop out during this international break.

Kyle Walker has not been 100 per cent fit for City, while Anthony Gordon was forced off during Newcastle United’s victory over Nottingham Forest, but they have reported for England duty and are with the squad – at least for now.

The staggering number of withdrawals will cause more debate over the amount of games players are being asked to play in and also the FA’s decision to allow incoming permanent manager Thomas Tuchel to start work on Jan 1.

Carsley has been allowed to remain in interim charge of the senior England team for this camp, after which he will return to his post as head coach of the Under-21s.

With John Stones, Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw and Kobbie Mainoo already out, Carsley has huge problems heading into the vital Nations League game against Greece in Athens on Thursday night.

Having been defeated by Greece at Wembley, when Carsley fielded an experimental team and formation, England have to win in Athens to stand any chance of topping their group and avoiding a play-off for finishing second.

Palmer reported to St George’s Park on Monday, but has withdrawn after limping his way out of Stamford Bridge with a knee problem following a 90-minute performance against Arsenal.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta had revealed that Rice, who played through the pain barrier with a broken toe, and Saka, who suffered a late injury, asked to come off in the draw with Chelsea.

On Grealish’s inclusion in Carsley’s initial squad, City manager Guardiola had said: “Jack trained today [Friday] and believes he can help us – I’m not the guy to say you cannot go [on international duty]. But for my team, he’s not fit. He cannot play. All I can say is that for a couple of days over two weeks he didn’t train but the people from England believe he can help them. So go.

“They can select who they want. All I’d say is the day after Wolves, he was injured, 17 days out and today [Friday] was the first training with the team.”

Guardiola sarcastically added: “The manager from the UK knows better than me.”

Daily Mirror suggesting it’s a sign of the problems facing international football at the moment and that clubs really don’t respect it.

The Sun saying Walker remains a fitness doubt. So I can see him either not starting either match or starting Thursday then pulling out.

Got to feel sorry for Carsley at this stage, this squad with all the pullouts is a shambles and a bit embarrassing to be honest. Maybe all the withdrawals are genuine and some will be but you know we will see a vast majority start for their Clubs at the next fixtures. Also, why are foreign managers seemingly trying to stop their players playing for England and not the foreign players playing in England?

It's funny because potentially our whole midfield could be from foreign clubs. Gallagher Bellingham gomes

The only one we ever have consistent trouble with is Arteta. I think in particular he sees Saka and Rice as irreplaceable in the squad, which is shown by often he plays them.

I've very rarely heard Pep complain about Foden being picked, for example.

With what we have I'd go with

Pickford Hall ghuei konsa walker Gallagher gomes Bellingham Gordon kane madueke. Still a pretty strong line up but I'm not sure it's enough to beat Greece by two goals

In fairness, I think Arteta is just a piece of work on this irrespective of nationality. I read that both Havertz and Odegaard are expected to drop out of their international squads and no doubt they’ll both play the first game back in two weeks. May be incorrect but I believe City have also done the same with KDB and Haaland in the past as well as other players.

In any case, I’m looking forward to having a strong character in charge in the form of Tuchel who will hopefully be loss tolerant of this sort of culture.

Five of the injury issues were known before the weekend games. Add in Ramsdale nasty injury. Most of these players have been hobbling through games.

Obviously Arteta has been a maniac with our players but the rest is just circumstances.

‘23 players are out on the pitch for training at St. George’s Park this morning.
Jarrad Branthwaite is working indoors, while MU21s defender Jarell Quansah has joined Lee Carsley’s squad for this session.’

Its a surprise Saka isn't injuried more. The amount of games hes played.Arteta has run the lad into the ground.
