Better performances. Martinez did it with Belgium. He plays this slow tika taka football. He makes Southgate look exciting
Strange isn't it. People remember they won in 2016 not the route they took. Yet we get the trolls hammering our routes.
to be fair they beat both Croatia and France before PKs without conceding which ended up being the World Cup final in 2018 and they also won the inaugural Nations League the following summer so the idea that they were a fluke or something like this based on their draw has always been a silly take upon close examination. They were a very good team for 2 years they got much worse once the new more talented generation came through ironically. Which show's names don't make a team especially when it comes to flair players that are not very versatile. the reality is no one wins by having an easy route eventually you will face a team or two where it's you or them that is the true champion. you can take nothing away from the Southgate era in terms of getting to 2 finals and a semi final other than to say the biggest scalps Southgate claimed was Netherthands 2024 and Germany 2020 in 8 years. Route's really don't matter so much eventually you have to face the best teams and if it's not you who is the best almost always you don't win anything. but yes people that play the easy route game are starting backwards they don't know what they are talking about. tournaments are very hard and results are results. sometimes the toughest game and the real final in in the last 8 or semi and sometimes its in the final but either way it's all difficult.
That's a lot of words that I am not going to read. Going to assume you missed the point by a long way Mainly because you are trolling and aren't an England fan
I wouldn’t say Martinez is terrible, but his Belgian stint was a classic example of what you get when you try to impose a Spanish way of playing on a North European national team. They’re polar opposites in many ways, and I suspect we'd encounter similar jarring issues if Pep or Arteta ever got the England job. We need someone who can make us the best version of who we are - a team of technically gifted players who play a physical, high pressing, high tempo game - not too dissimilar to the power play of the Germans. Which is why I’m quite relaxed about Tuchel taking over.
I think Tuchel is a great fit. He could be a bit defensive at times with Chelsea but he is tactically excellent. I'll never forget the 5-2-3 under Southgate with Phillips,Rice in midfield and Mount as a LW with Trippier at RB. The football in those teams was really turgid.
It feels like half the football media don’t like Tuchel methods personally and half do. Some articles sell him well and others make him look bad. The Athletic (Normally a sensible paper) seem to have many writers who do not like him with an article about his abrasive nature.
I just hope the media and fans don't give him a hard time before he takes over in January just because he's German. I remember what happened with scolari when he agreed to take over then changed his mind because of the press. We ended up with mclaren.
The Daily Mail has made it clear they will give a very hostile time. Not sure about the rest of the media. Suspect they might some in the media waiting for the opinion polls - if they show the majority against they will be more hostile than if the majority are for.
The football media in this country are a complete sham. Sam Wallace called out here. 1846309469459767336 is not a valid tweet id
I think for a few of them it’s a personal dislike of Tuchel which they now covering with a pivot to anti foreigner narrative, The Daily Mail outright say they might have been happy with Guardiola but not Tuchel.
And this is the problem. They just look like massive hypocrites. Mainly because they are. They use their position to peddle their personal views rather than objective reporting and analysis (this is something not limited to football journalists).
Tuchel signed his contract before the game against Greece. It makes you wonder if Carsley played that ridiculously unbalanced line up just to prove to people it wouldn't work and make sure the incoming manager wouldn't be pressured to try it. 4D chess.
The daily mail is a racist and questionable source for news and I would be highly sceptical of anything printed in that paper. We are past the days of it mattering if the manager is English or not. If the Daily Mail cares so much about having an English manager because it's the patriotic thing to so, maybe its English born owners should reconsider their offshore status to avoid paying tax in the UK! I do worry about a small portion of our fans, the type to sing the German bombers song though.
Who gives a toss about the media! Those hacks who are writing negative articles are either the ones he's been abrasive to in the past, or complete dinosaurs stuck in the 1980s like Jeff Powell or Sam Wallace. You've been driving this "The Press Will Never Allow A Foreign Manager" bandwagon for ages, Fireburn. Well, guess what, the wheels have fallen off, we've got one and, if the results and performances start coming, even those naysayers will soon change their tune.
Fireburn has probably lost a sizeable amount of money betting on Frank Lampard for next England manager, so be nice to him today
That goes onto my next point. Southgate was very insular regarding players playing in England. He ignored a few English players playing abroad. Tuchel as an outsider will look at it from a broader perspective. He'll look at English players playing around Europe not just England
This is such a lazy narrative, what players from abroad were ignored that you think would have made a significant impact?
Big risk through now not making automatic promotion which has financial consequences for the FA if the playoff is not won. And it hasn’t worked because many of the press will continue to demand it and so will many fans when he plays his usual boring style next march
