When you aren’t even pressing the ball correctly as a team it is time to adapt. He should have changed alot at HT. The attackers were supposed to be direct on and off the ball but were constantly standing or coming deep to passively play the ball. So much was really below par tonight.
I thought the same when he played Fulham. Nice and neat in possesion, very weak as a defender. I really don't see why he was picked ahead of Mitchell (perfectly functional), Hall(suspect defensively but not as much as Lewis) and Davis (who has improved as the season has gone on). Most likely Hall is the next in the line, but I would prefer Mitchell or Davis.
That was a pretty strong line-up too, I don't remember anyone using absentees as an excuse for that result. And that was part of a dismal run in itself, they had already lost once to the same mediocre Hungarian team 1 week earlier, and drew with a terribly weak Italian team at Wembley. That result was also such a shock because the team had been desperately poor for games, 0-4 was the low point. This one could easily be just one screw-up game against an emotional, fired up Greek team. We will find out. But the Pep fanboys have already decided, I see.
The chances of the new manager completly dropping Foden are still slim. Whoever it is will be forced to deal with the press sadly who still love Foden.
This reminds me of Gerrard and Rooney. Past their best in the later years but always picked and unbalanced the team as a whole. Rooney as a midfielder was a nadir. Though you also had Gerrard as a 6 in the WC 2014. I had the thought that England would struggle as long as they kept trying to shoehorn them in. Foden is feeling like the same for England. We keep destabilisng the team to fit him in. He doesn't deserve it. I will be happy if he is dropped from England squad altogether.
So that means no Man City players as well then ? Oh right. Just like they have done after every bad performance on the last 40 years.
I like Carsley but I really hope he didn't drop Gomes because it was the easiest thing to do. Whatever the thinking that was alot of changes to introduce. He crammed them all in though I will give him that. Truly bizarre we somehow made it to half time and he just sent them out again! what on earth was the thinking there? So disappointing about as bad an audition as it gets.
I like colwill. He breaks the lines with his passing. Something we don't have in any other defender. But playing alongside another ball playing defender for me isn't going to work. I'd rather see him alongside someone like ghuei. An out and out defender
Foden and Pickford taking the brunt of the blame with the press. I am still waiting for the apology from for the press who forced Rashford out in favour of Foden in Qatar.

Rashford lost form and Foden gained massive momentum but he's been a liability of late. I'd rather see Bellingham, Saka and Palmer together with Maddison, Gibbs-White and Rashford as other options. Further back we've still the problem of who to select alongside Rice. That was hardly answered by today's experiment.Lewis Cook is a player who always had a massive talent but career bedevilled by injury. Back in his best form for several years though and still only 27 so could be an option. The no-striker formation hopefully will never be attempted again. Better to sacrifice a Nations league match than qualifier in attempting it I suppose. Need a proper left back. Until Shaw returns from injury and the likes of Cirkin develop further then Mitchell will do fine for now thanks.
One other last point. The unfamiliar team selection doesn't help when facing a motivated, well drilled team who were emotionally playing for their mate. Carsley should have recognised that.
@Fireburn47 I don’t know why we all have to read in numerous threads about your Pep culpable for City’s charges theory. It is spamming at this point. Do I need to tell you again to not dump it in this thread?
BBC player ratings. 1, Bellingham - 4.73 2, Waktins - 4.64 3, Madueke - 4.36 4. Colwill - 4.31 5. Stones - 4.11 6. Rice - 3.97 7. Palmer - 3.97 8. Solanke - 3.94 9, Alexander - Arnold - 3.85 10, Lewis - 3.76 11, Saka - 3.70 12, Gordon - 3.69 13, Foden - 3. 33 14, Pickford - 2.88 The Talk is Mitchell is going to be dropped by Palace soon if they don’t change their manager so he might not be a properly viable pick.
We didn’t even bother to play anyone with him tonight. Poor Rice getting countered on all game and he’s got Foden and Palmer closest to him in midfield and Lewis and Trent leaving massive spaces behind them. Really is absurd when you think about it.
Hmmm Hmmm . He usually looks decent when I've seen him but I guess next back up option could be Justin. Really narks me though that we can't pick Robinson due to U.S's rule bending.
I’ve seen Palace fans on Twitter complaining about Mitchell on social media and saying he doesn’t suit the current managers style and preference for more attacking right and left backs.
