Gray, Moore and Lankshear start for Spurs. Ajayi, Austin, Dorrington, Forster Maddison and Solanke are on the bench.
Lee Carsley discusses selection headaches, difficult phone calls and much more after he confirmed his 25 #ThreeLions players earlier today 💬— England (@England) October 3, 2024
I think a favourite is more justified when they pushing to be first choice starters (Gomes could be said to be in that category’ than when they going to be firmly a bench option.
I don't really get the calls for Rodgers to be included. He has Foden, Bellingham and Palmer in front of him. Even MGW has shown more, as have probably a handful of others.
Adarabioyo and Drewsbury - Hall start for Chelsea. Dyer, George, Madueke and Colwill are on the bench. Rashford starts for Manchester United. Collyer, Gore, Heaton and Maguire on the bench, Mainoo appears to have travelled but wasn’t deemed fit enough to be on the bench. Injury doubt for the squad?
Mikey Moore just put Timo Werner one on one with the keeper with predictable results. Kind of feel sorry for Werner.
I kind of felt bad about saying what I did the other day about Werner thinking it will come back and bite me in the ass but fortunately for me, he’s proving me right sadly for him.
Rashford subbed off at half after getting a goal and assist. Man United currently playing with no English players,
So Maguire once again saves Ten Hag. He has his faults but he’s a warrior who gives everything to the cause and has never hidden at United despite all the stick that he’s had, deserves better than to be dropped for Ten Hag’s tosh signings
Carsley suggests he might play Palmer, Saka or Trent at left back. Surely he was just joking about the first one in particular. https://www.thetimes.com/sport/foot...-announcement-selection-lee-carsley-tw7tzpkmv His words about Sancho are stretch - about not wanting players who having a sudden good spell - when Madueke is there despite not doing much last season either. By his words one of Bellingham or Foden will miss out. Palmer is the fittest and most in form. Hard to tell who out of those two won’t start. Ten Hag says the withdrawal of Marcus Rashford at half-time last night was tactical. He is OK. We have to rotate. Garnacho, we didn't start him. He had a great game, not only on Sunday, but I think in the whole season. We sub them because on Sunday, we have another hard game, a good game, so we need players to be available and be fit and be fresh. It's a quick turnaround to Villa. They have a day longer [to recover], and we have an away game, so we want fresh players on the pitch.' Maresca on Dewsbury-Hall: "I know Kiernan very well. I know when you are the main player and then move to a big club it's not easy... you're not the main player". "Sometimes you struggle a bit at the beginning so I was very happy for him". Maresca when asked whether he has regrets on leaving Chilwell out the UEFA squad: “No”. The plan remains to part ways in January with Chilwell expected to be one of the players set to leave Chelsea. Kalvin Phillips on Pep Guardiola’s 'overweight' comments: "Every club that I'd go to, I spoke to, like the manager and the nutritionist, they'd always speak about weight before they'd say anything else…" Real Madrid have already made contact with England defender Trent Alexander-Arnold, 25, as they attempt to lure him away from Liverpool at the end of the season. (Relevo - in Spanish) Newcastle United are likely to revisit their pursuit of England centre-back Marc Guehi in January, with the expectation that Crystal Palace will be more willing to sell the 24-year-old. Ten Haag has lost the plot! He plays and keeps Rashford on when he’s been playing crap and when he gets some form he takes him off. Bizarre.

Only one outfield player over 35 in last 20 years. Wonder how many of the current squad will achieve that.
Probably none. I don’t see Walker being involved this time next year. Kane will bow out at Euro 2028 at the latest when he will still just about be 34.m
‘Kobbie Mainoo failed to make the matchday squad after picking up an injury on Sunday. 'It was too big a risk,' said Ten Hag. 'We have to wait and see if he can play on Sunday. If he is fit enough to start or be on the bench.'’
If Kane is still involved at Euro 2028, then there is a serious issue with our striker pipeline. Based on his impact, or lack of, against elite or even just very good opponents these days, he arguably shouldn’t be taking 2026 for granted let alone four years time. That would also mean he’s been to seven major tournaments, I don’t have stats on how many other elite strikers have been to, but it’s very unusual for players to go to that many. Again, I’d argue it’s not a good thing either because whilst it shows longevity on behalf of the individual, it is a poor indictment on a nation when they fail to produce someone who can take the mantle from a player over such a long period of time. It’s a bit like the Jimmy Anderson situation in the cricket. Yes it’s impressive on his behalf that he kept himself in good condition for that long, but it also says a lot, and not in a good way about the production line of elite, talented bowlers that a player who was 40+ arguably should’ve been given even longer. I can’t imagine Australia or India would ever be in that position.
It usually becomes circumstantial. For example, a lack of options in a certain area mean an older player gets/stays in the squad and plays. Most of that list pretty much follows that reasoning. Kyle Walker has a lot going for him but it would be a bit surprising.
Oliver Glasner says he does not understand why Eberechi Eze was left out of Lee Carsley’s recent England squad.OG: “He plays fantastic for us, but the difference is that he missed all of his chances. He could have five or six goals at the moment.” #CPFChttps://t.co/tQQuK7O9gw— Edmund Brack (@EdmundBrack) October 4, 2024
How many pull outs do we expect? I wouldn't be surprised if palmer and foden withdrew then please for their clubs. I know I sound like Fireburn
Surely they both can’t do it against. Mainoo is one to watch particularly if he doesn’t appear tomorrow.
Henderson, Mitchell, Guehi, Chalobah, Eze, Wharton and Nketiah start for Palace. Kporha, Ward, Clyne and Hughes are on the bench. Alexander - Arnold and Jones start for Liverpool. Gomez and Quansah are on the bench. Jones finally starting - maybe he will be involved in November if this carries on. It’s clear Carsley treats playing time as an factor in getting a call up.
Sam Matterface on Talksport has been expressing his surprise at Eze being left out and then speculated about it being a test for Carsley keeping the squad happy now Palmer, Foden and Bellingham are back.
