Walker's the only player who falls into that bracket tbf. Still plenty of new faces from the Southgate era, many were just called up by Carsley last time.
Maybe he wants to give him a goodbye but it’s suss decision. Still the tabloids will be delighted considering he and his family are in them every other day.

Presumably he wants to see these players have never used them before. I am being generous. Walker was poor the whole Euros and doesn't even have good domestic performances to call on. Madueke has been poor from reports by Chelsea fans. Gibbs-White flatters to deceive when I see him. Foden urrgh. And still no left back. Hall, Mitchell, Davis all playing at left back this season.
Trent is obviously first choice RB at this stage for Carsley, Lewis is in the squad ostensibly as a LB and RB cover if required, and Walker is obviously preferred at this stage over Livramento, don't have a massive issue with that at this juncture, I'm sure things will change down the line.
Lee Carsley on Dominic Solanke: "He has a lot of attributes I really like and he's a really nice person as well." Lee Carsley: "I'm not really surprised by Cole Palmer's form, I've known him for a number of years and have seen how he's progressed. He takes every challenge in his stride and it's great to see him doing so well." England's interim head coach Lee Carsley on trying to fit Cole Palmer, Phil Foden and Jude Bellingham into the same starting line-up: "It's a challenge with the squad that we've got, we've got so many talented players. "We always look at finding the right balance, who complements who in terms of the way that we play. I try not to get too caught up in positions, it's more the attributes and the way we can potentially attack the opposition. All three are excellent players, as are the rest of the squad." Carsley: 'I wanted to look at other players' Eberechi Eze is not in the squad this time around, but Carsley insists it is not a case of the Crystal Palace man being dropped, but more that he wants to see some new faces in his squad to see what they can do. Carsley: Maguire is 'definitely' in my long-term plans Harry Maguire has missed out as well, but Carsley still thinks he has an international future, and claims he has a 'really important part to play' moving forward.
I think he sees them as completely different options. Maddison is likely competing with Palmer and Foden for a squad role.
Carsley has just been talking about Walker’s experience being helpful for the other options too. Only really Stones from the defence who is an experienced option. Someone needs to take the spot from Walker. Not sure why he should just be dropped entirely at this point.
Carsley: Harry Kane is an 'easy target' Kane has received some criticism from the German press this week for not showing up in big games. Carsley has defended his captain, believing he is an 'easy target' and claims he is #in a good place' after scoring twice on his 100th cap last month.
I think if you look at players through the lense of qualities and attributes and not positions you have to put MGW and Foden in the same bracket because they're pretty damn similar, MGW is just a massively watered down version of Foden because he doesn't have the small space ability that he does. MGW is predominantly a transition player, and in this squad there's Foden, Bellingham, Grealish, Gordon and to a degree Palmer who all excel in attacking transitions. We don't really have a single player who can both create consistently against low blocks and slow down a game in midfield like Maddison can. Jude seems to be developing that way, but right now he's not as cute as Maddison with his passing.
Just disappointing selections for me at LB, Colwill is playing at CB and if Lewis is the cover there then he has played RB and CM this season.
Livramento is not even a starter for his club. So far, it has not shown anything that suggests he is indispensable.
I’m still skeptical of Colwill as a left back at the highest level. With Shaw’s fitness troubles he can’t be relied on and others are not not making a strong case either, I actually think Lewis could be better there despite being right footed - not often impressed by centre backs as right or left backs.
I don't really see how anyone other than Maddison could feel that it is unfair that he was left out. Carsley has more faith in his own men, and Gibbs-White is in pretty good form this year, his invitation is not undeserved. The rest are fine in my opinion. I have confidence in the process and Carsley for the time being.
From the look of the squad it is Grealish and Gordon on the left, Madueke and Saka on the right. Then the three CF’s. Palmer and Foden as 10’s (or 8’s if required). MGW and Gallagher as the high energy pressers if desired in games. Rice, Bellingham, Gomes and Mainoo as the CM’s. Walker and Trent at RB and Lewis and Colwill covering the adapted LB role. Then the four CB’s. That is how I see it anyway. Maybe he should have picked an extra option. Say Eze to cover the workload of Saka and his versatility covers a few other areas of the squad.
I think MGW gets in because of his high energy style and how that fits into the wider squad. That is how it works in my head anyway and he is also pretty versatile. Maddison is unlucky though. Could have just given a squad place to him as the 26th player.
England's interim head coach Lee Carsley on whether Morgan Rogers was close to making the squad: "There's a lot of players that were close to being in this squad. The talent that we've got available for us, it would have been quite easy to name a 40-man squad and justify having them all in. The challenge is making sure that we pick a competitive squad that can win the two games." This.
Disagree with the thoughts of other people in here on Rogers. I’m actually surprised that people aren’t more questioning of him being overlooked. I get that no two players are the same but it seems odd that MGW is being called up and he isn’t. Rogers is doing it at a much higher level than the former and we should be picking the best players available when and where possible. Glad Solanke has been picked in place of Toney though. Important to send a message to players that going to Saudi will derail your England career.
MGW is obviously a favourite of Carsley's, all managers have them. It's been great to Rogers kick on so much but I do think he needs a bit more end product.
It hasn’t been mentioned anywhere but it is commendable that Kyle Walker wants to come back for another campaign. He’s got no guarantees of playing, is now 34 and still wants to compete. He’s already the 15th oldest player to play for England since the 1993/1994 season.
