Just in time isn't going to cut it if you're on the periphery of the squad given the attacking options England has. Injury issues are the obvious answer to your question why he dropped out.

Lewis Cook has been quietly chugging along in the engine room for Bournemouth all year having a decent season. Quietly returned to the kind of level he was at that got him a reserve call up for the world cup in 2018.

Given the weakness in midfield, I wonder if he might be a wildcard for a similar back up call up for the Euro's, particularly if its a 26 man squad. Clearly the hope that Phillips would get some kind of form back has completely evaporated after the March games leaving it pretty threadbare. Wharton presumably also in a shout for a similar role for alternatives.

Maybe but would be one of the biggest shock call ups in England history. If there is any midfielder who wasn’t in the March squad who gets called up Jones is surely first in line. From how many times he and the FA Briefed press talk about Trent he is genuinely considering him as having a chance of starting in midfield.

    Great goal.

I think Eze is unique in the England setup. He's physically strong, with a high technical level but he also is able to slow games down and put his foot on the ball in attacking positions. Cole Palmer is closest to him in style.

I don't think it would be that surprising considering the kind of players who usually make up the reserve list for squads, usually people just happy to be there. There's only really Jones in contention who'd be clearly ahead of him from outside the last squad for a similar role, and that was already a threadbare central midfield selection.

If it’s for a reserve list he might well put Phillips on it but only take him if injuries occur.

It really would be terrific to see Lewis Cook and Dom Solanke fulfill their early promise and finally succeed on the international stage. Can't believe it's now 7 years since they helped England win the U20 World Cup... or that Konsa and Tomori are the only ones from that squad who have made anything close to a breakthrough into the senior squad.

Adam Wharton off injured now. Commentators think it might be a knee injury.

One for you but does any player in Europe's top 5 leagues have more goals and assists than him this season?

Horrendous error for Dean Henderson to concede a goal just then. Going down as Mitchell own goal.

I wonder if Southgate will take Carl Rushworth as the Mirror claimed he was suggesting. Or at least have him as fourth choice if he has four initial goalkeepers before cutting to three like at the last euros.
