Southgate only wants him as a midfielder. He doesn’t see him a right back anymore.

Happy for Villa, at least they can hold their heads high out of the English sides. Was always going to be an uphill battle for West Ham given the opponent, felt they did fine but just beaten by a better side.

Bigger picture though is that we’ve just not been good enough across the board this season. Germany and Italy have simply outperformed us and deserve the extra spot for this year. It is what it is and fair play to them. The anti-England/PL brigade can have their laughs and fun. Beauty of sport is that it’s never done and there’s always another game/year to look ahead to. I’m certain we’ll be back next season, last time we had a shocker in Europe, we produced an all English final the following season in the CL back in 21 and a finalist in the EL.

Might sound crazy, but I actually don’t think Klopp leaving Liverpool is as catastrophic as being made out as well. Ever since Liverpool won the league back in 2020, they’ve been very up and down and prone to some real collapses in form.

There’s also no coincidence that they seem to have had an injury crisis every year since then. I think his style is just too reliant on physicality and winning duels, which tires the players out and makes them have these erratic runs of form and even seasons such as in 2021/2023. A move to a more possession based coach/a coach who seeks to control games with the ball could end up being a real positive and leave them less prone to burning out as they seemingly have done numerous times in recent years including right now.

How did Lookman get the highest score when he only played for the last 10 mins and did nothing of note until I turned over to the West Ham game for the last few minutes.

That's what I mean when I said "it's never gonna happen under Southgate". It's exremely risky though to use up a midfield spot on what will effectively be an experiment. He'll very much need a backup plan and I'll bet he doesn't have one.

It’s an online vote so he might have got some block voting. It happens sometimes that players sometimes get high scores unjustly.

I feel like that if Toney was unavailable Southgate might well just take Kane and Watkins and have Bowen, Gordon, Palmer or Rashford as the back up to those. It’s a concern that he was on the bench last week but now this week is not fit enough even for the bench.

I think at the very least Solanke would be in the provisional squad. If it's 23 then yeah it's gonna be just Kane and Watkins, but a 26-man squad in which Toney wasn't fit, I think Solanke would have a good chance, more so if Southgate gets a look at him up close first. He did say that he considered calling him for the last squad so he's in his thinking.

Tuchel well and truly burnt him to the ground. This could be Saka's future if Arteta isn't careful.

I think through compared to Saka Mount might habe a weaker body. Saka might well be closer to some of those players who play a lot but whose body can cope.

And Lampard played him just as much as Tuchel.

Man United through do get a lot of training injuries. Some teams seem to get mostly in match injuries while others are full of training injuires.

And the problem is saying players are getting injured for over playing is not in fashion at the moment. People think being played 300k a week means you can do 70 matches a year without an issue.

Could be that. Mount definitely plays in a more physically demanding way than Saka so that doesn't help. Regardless though I think it's quite demonstrative of how playing so many minutes in multiple seasons on the bounce can destroy a body. He had a very good injury record but now can't keep fit. The two things line up pretty well.

That's bonkers. You have to wonder if like Chelsea there's a structural issue there.
