Jacob Ramsey may return tomorrow as he has travelled to Poland with Aston Villa. Don’t see him getting called up in October through but maybe November.
He's an excellent player. I could see him moving to a bigger club next season if he continues this form. I'd even bet that's why villa have tied him down, to get more money if the offers come in.

https://www.caughtoffside.com/2023/09/19/next-england-manager-guardiola-potter-howe-carsley/ Potter still seems the FA’s choice after Pep to replace Southgate. I bet they get none of those3 it’s someone less expected like Cooper or Rodgers.
The thing about Ramsdale that I find unsavoury is that it seems like he’s been singled out. I don’t think he is world class or even one of Arsenal’s best players, but he has still been largely solid for them and he just gets tossed away right at the start of the season, having signed a contract at the end of the last one. Obviously none of us are privy to what was said in those negotiations, but if he was given assurances over his starting berth and/or playing time, it seems very underhand. To go back to my first sentence, it seems a bit odd to preach about ruthlessness when you are starting Kai Havertz, who is nowhere near good enough for a side trying to win the league. In addition to a striker in Jesus who your main rivals discarded due to him not being good enough in front of goal, the main attribute a striker needs. Then there’s Gabriel, who always has a mistake in him whenever I watch Arsenal.
I would love to know what has gone on behind the scenes. If he doesn’t start on Sunday in the North London Derby speculation about him moving on January will only grow and Southgate will likely be asked why he is selecting a goalkeeper no longer club first choice. 🔴⚪️ Arteta: “I was really emotional tonight when I saw the reception for Emile Smith-Rowe”.“It was well deserved”, Arsenal coach said via @SamJDean. pic.twitter.com/32ar1fbLDq— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) September 20, 2023
Ramsdale's stats were pretty average across the board last season. His form and shot-stopping especially fluctuates from great to poor. He's also said that Arteta keeps telling that the needs to play higher up the pitch. I think it's just ruthless management with Raya being a better fit for Arteta's Spanish style.
Feel like Arsenal extended his contract knowing they could charge a fee that is beyond what most clubs would be willing to pay so he can’t leave until 2025 as I do think they want a very strong secure choice.
“He has to go and play somewhere!” 👀👋“Football’s heartless. Now he probably won’t get on the plane in the summer.” 😳Gabby Agbonlahor urges Ramsdale to leave #AFC in January to make the Euros squad. pic.twitter.com/GEhPLESmAk— talkSPORT (@talkSPORT) September 21, 2023
That's unlikely, they were probably just opportunistic and a better goalkeeper became available for a reasonable price (initially on loan which helps them even more FFP wise), if you look at Ramsdale's stats it not an exaggeration to say they could of won the league with a better goalkeeper (he ranking lower midtable).
They also could have dropped alot more points if ramsdale didn't make some unbelievable saves last season. He's been a great player for arsenal, can't help but think he's been treated very harsh in this instance. But then again, football is ruthless and there's no room for sentiment.
Still they will probably ask for a fee that is behind most clubs. So he could be stuck in position where Arsenal decline to let him go because of money,
All goalkeepers make good saves throughout the season, I never said he wasn't a competent keeper. But its undeniable if you look at stats from last season that he's not an elite goalkeeper, his expected goals against how likely he was to concede was negative, so for all the unbelievable saves he made he conceded more than he was expected to.
Goalkeeping could be an issue for England in a hea4 or two. If Pope gets replaced at Newcastle we could end up with no English goalkeeper playing for European football playing teams. We have been fortunate that Pickford has never cost England in a major match in a way his stats would suggest he should have at least once.
Pickford should, all going well, be fine for the next couple of tournaments at least as number one. Then I would assume at least one of the back ups will be doing competently enough to provide back up throughout that time as has been the case. Our goalkeeper options have been getting stronger rather than weaker.
Raya is by no means a better keeper than ramsdale. He was very mistake prone at Blackburn. He's done well at Brentford but he's not infallible
