How somehow? You should watch more Bundesliga then you should know that they always try to set him up for long range shots and they let him take the free kicks from long range because he has the fire power. Löw was there last Saturday watching the BVB v. Schalke game where Pander scored and afterwards he called him up for the NT. I'm sure that Löw told them to try to set up Pander and Hitzlsperger. Just rewatch how they played him free while the "best" (highest paid) defender in the world was watching: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nPlEZkqN81Q
To be fair to Mourinho, when he said it he may not have been the only one to believe so. Terry was chosen as the best UEFA Club Defender of the Year in 2005/2006 by UEFA, for instance. On the other hand, he may have changed his opinion since. Recently he singled out Carvalho as Chelsea's best defender last season. In any case, Terry always seemed like somebody to me who isn't really all that comfortable with the ball despite his abilities as a defender. It's difficult for a team to move the ball around to create space if one of your defenders plays long ball because he doesn't have the confidence/ability to initiate attacks by passing on the ground.
Of course he'll go with one of his players. He couldn't really pick Terry last season as he was injured so much.
