There are only about three games starting after midnight that I am even interested in watching. It is such a weird tournament.

I don’t think any of the European heavyweights have group games that are prime time in USA. Can’t imagine their broadcasters are happy with that. Even most of the knockout rounds are peak time in Europe rather than North America.
There’ll be a max of 5 USA matches if we are being very generous. Although the Mexican and Canadian ones will generate some interest too I suppose.
BREAKING: Julian Nagelsmann has decided to call Manuel Neuer up for the World Cup as #1If today's injury is not serious, Neuer will be on the plane to the US this summer @Plettigoal pic.twitter.com/rOOtXayKvu— Bayern & Germany (@iMiaSanMia) May 16, 2026 @GermanBlade Your thoughts.
USA match vs Australia in Seattle will be at 12pm pacific time. I vividly remember watching World Cup matches in a sun drenched California summer involving European teams at 9am to 11am time slots and getting fried at the same process.
It’s a public holiday in the state of Washington, and primary and secondary schools are already closed for the summer. At the federal level, we don’t really have such a thing, except for fixed federal holidays like Juneteenth, which this year happens to fall on the 19th — ironically, the same day as the USA vs. AUS match.

I was wondering why Germany were bringing back Neuer but they haven’t really got much competition for that role. Feels a bit like 1990’s Peter Shilton. It’s a massive slap in the face when coaches un-retire players on the eve of a tournament. I can’t recall us ever doing it? I remember Zidane coming back and taking Vikash Dhorasoo’s starting spot for France.
We are what ? A month out from the first match ? Went to a the US equivalent of Sports Direct or JD Sports today Not a single world cup shirt available. Not even a USA one. There was some Adidas throwback stuff but just nothing in the shop Can't even find a Panini sticker book
Oh yeah. I guess he was a squad player though and not going right into the team (Might not have even got on the pitch if Rio had not got injured).
Traditional stores and retailers in the USA or at least here in Southern California are dying out as more people shop online for convenience, much like many fast-food restaurants, banks, and other essential services now rely on drive-thrus or curbside pickups. This new ways of selling products, especially nonessential items like sports apparel, are more cost-effective for businesses because consumers will almost always choose convenience when they can.
I usually try to catch as many games as possible, but also not really feeling this world cup. Theres just a bunch of converging issues: 1) The tournament expansion, coupled with 32/48 teams going through the groups means there's almost no jeopardy in the group stage and few interesting match ups and given the expansion is largely from weaker confederations, a big decrease in mean quality of teams. Too much dilution. 2) Kick off times are all over the pace, not a huge issue in the group stage but the knoc out stages still have a decent amount of games post midnight. 3) Climate conditions are going to lead to low quality. The club world cup last year was largely dreary slow paced games, it's going to lead to the same this year, only with the amount of weak teams a heavy dose of lots of low blocks too. 4) America as hosts. Certainly not the only controversial world cup host of recent times, but the others at least try to be on their best behaviour whereas the US seems to be going out it's way to be abrasive and a suspicion that Trump will do something to put himself at the centre of attention like he always does. FIFA have also used the US at hosts to be at their worst behaviour for price gouging, americanising the tournament in the worst ways (prolonged half time shows, in game ad breaks through the backdoor).
Mate, if you can’t mentally handle being an adult on the internet, this platform may not be for you. I don’t say this lightly, but seek help if you must. Disagreement, criticism, and uncomfortable truths are part of public discourse, especially in business, politics, and sport. Not every observation you dislike is an attack. On the subject of the sports apparel business for the World Cup, what I said is simply the reality of a changing world. Consumer habits are evolving rapidly. People increasingly value convenience, speed, direct-to-consumer shopping, and online accessibility over traditional retail experiences. That shift is affecting not only sports apparel, but also restaurants, banks, entertainment, and countless other industries adapting to new technology and consumer expectations. You may not like the direction of it, but reality does not pause for nostalgia. Businesses either adapt to changing markets or get left behind by competitors who understand where the world is heading. That is not cruelty or pessimism — it is how economies and industries have always evolved.
*sigh* It was pretty much the only possible outcome once it became known he was in the 55. It´s just wrong on so many levels imo. The most important being he´s really past his best and has been for 3,4 seasons now. What angers me personally the most is the fact he´s basically needlessly crushed a 35 year old´s dream (Oliver Baumann) of starting for his country at the WC despite backing him as the first-choice keeper the whole time.
At least you don't have to deal with the fact that your country is taking a 36 year old Brentford reserve midfielder
