It's generally good for a tournament when the host country stays in it for a while, but on the other hand yeah a lot of their fans can be unbearable and it would be funny if they got slapped about by someone. Then again plenty of people would say the same about our fans, even though I think a lot of that is actually the media.

good result for USA, they do have some good attackers now

balogan was a talent at Arsenal but he looks to of matured into a good finisher now

Paraguay and Bosnia are both expansion teams. Neither qualify if it's a 32 team tournament.
If Paraguay end up with 4 or 6 points, then this will have been a fantastic result for the US. If they end up with 0 or 1, then it's an expected result.

Just imagine what the score would have been if they'd had all of their best athletes playing football.

This town called the City of Angels, Hollywood, and all the fuss is something else.

Usa look good. It seems to be coming together. Though Paraguay looked awful so there's a caveat. All the host nations have got off to a decent start

There have been some pretty poor teams so far in the group stage, thought South Africa, Czech Republic and Paraguay were all bang average. Hopefully none of them advance as 3rd place teams

I think it’s a sign that the US players are in a really good place when Reyna, who had an unremarkable season to say the least, has the confidence to score a goal like that. It was a really impressive performance from them.

Bosnia qualified via playoffs. Hard to best no doubt and fair enough.

Paraguay finished 6 which traditionally would not have been enough to qualify and this time around was entirely reliant on winning at home.

Just woke up, what did I miss? Sounds like the US are winning this World Cup….

Just in another note, did so many of you stay up to watch this game or are most of you state side?

Turkey will be the big test but if they get through that I could see them getting to the quarters.

2/3 am time slot is good for me and my baba right now. I doubt I'll be doing any 5am ones.

He's actually been prescribed some medicine which he needs to have at regular intervals, one of which is middle of night. Have been watching the second half of the night games so far.

I'll definitely stay up for the jock humiliation. Seriously though I can see Scotland getting a 1-0 win

Yeah same, absolutely no chance. Sweden start their first game Monday morning at 4am and can say there’s no chance I’m getting up for that. Gonna struggle for England games in the knockouts ( if we get there ) if we get a midweek middle of the night kick off. Probably why I prefer the Euros to World Cups, the time for kick offs is obviously just more European friendly.

Seriously? Wow, I haven’t heard this before but that would be epic! Fair play to having 80k for a swimming venue would be amazing.

Swimming is massively popular in America. It’s why in 2028 the Olympics have swapped Athletics and Swimming around so Swimming is the second week.
