Mainoo is the first 2005 call up. You would assume he will get a cap.

Congrats to Ezri Konsa (1997) and Kobbie Mainoo (2005) for their debuts.

Rooney only turned up to one tournament (euro 2004) then every single one after , he basically flopped.

But how much of that was down to frustration of being in a team that didn't have the tools to play a certain way.

The entire period in between Glen Hoddle all the way up to Southgate is mental torture (exception Euro 2004)

Adam Wharton (2004) and Jarrad Branthwaite (2002) added. Congrats to both.

It is going to be interesting to see how many more players gain caps from the 2004 and 2005 age groups. There have been concerns about depth and quality at the younger ages.

We will likely know the true depth of options from these groups when the next U21 campaign has been going for a while. With the cut off date for that campaign being 2004.

Arguably most likely 2004 options at present -

Lewis Hall and James Beadle might be the most likely 2004 call ups because of their positions. Quite a few midfielders that could surprise a bit too. Arblaster probably had the best season. I was interested to see Divin Mubama get some game time somewhere in the season just gone. Contract issues pretty much ruined his season.

2005 has Ashley Phillips. Interesting season coming up for him. Jobe Bellingham, Hinshelwood and Cozier-Duberry are others. We’ve got quite a few midfielders like say Bobby Clark who need regular games to assess them.

Kind of remarkable every 2000 player to be capped was part of the World Cup winning squad, great talent identification. I wonder if anyone outside of that group will be capped?

Max Aarons, Jacob Greaves, Anthony Patterson, Djed Spence, Ryan Sessegnon and Jack Clarke are probably the most likely options.

Might be challenging for them but who knows.

Yep you’d say those are the most likely candidates, I’d throw Skipp into the mix as well, all with an outside chance.

Jacob Greaves will get there, and will be a lot sooner than people think - he's every inch an international defender
