I love the pros-cons list from the first article you described! Under criticism, people are worried that the land scenery will change... defense is that "the scenery will not change that much." C'mon people, you're building a 400 mile long resevoir!!! The scenery is going to change!

If China can pull this off and keep it standing for 20 years, I'll have to tip my hat to them. However, with their long running record with safety and industrial controls, I just don't think the damn is going to be very "safe"...

Is the damn going to be a Hoover Damn or a St. Francis Damn??

St. Francis damn before -- 1
St. Francis damn before -- 2
    St. Francis damn after
    St. Francis damn disaster aftermath
