its not end of the world machine, its something developed by...

Swiss scientists have built a machine to reach a rare atom. The down side being that there is a change it could generate a black hole what will engulf the entire earth.

"The European Organization for Nuclear Research, or CERN, which is building the particle accelerator is fully aware of the probability that their powerful accelerator may create a black hole and do what black holes do, specifically swallow the earth. CERN is relying on paraplegic physicist STEPHEN HAWKING's opinion regardless of his conscious or subconscious state of mind!!"

It reminds me of Doctor Octopus trying to do cold fusion at the start of Spiderman 2.

Think it'd have the same effect?

You end-of-worlders are all talk. I say put your money where your mouth is and take me up in this bet.

If the world doesn't end before the close of this year, you own me $10,000.
If it does end then I own you any amount you want.

Well want to take that bet? :)

Exactly... the guy's being totally unreasonable and stupid... don't listen to him.

Anyway, I've got an alternative bet.

Using your calculation of 1 chance in 50 million I'm prepared to pay you 50 Billion dollars if the world ends. So, against your single, solitary, measly payment of only $1000 you could win 50 Billion Dollars if the world is annihilated in a huge fireball* :)

Cash or cheque... I'm not bothered.

Well, it may not end it as such but it would certainly put a crimp on the whole day.

Well, it's been running for quite some time now, without ill effect. I think we're safe from imminent destruction.

actually, all they did was successfully shoot the beam in one direction (i think clockwise), and then will follow up with doing the same in the opposite direction. tomorrow - DOOMSDAY if you will :p - is when they shoot both lasers simultaneously in both directions and get the particles to collide and create this earth-consuming black hole in question.

    Color me "not worried".

Besides, if the world is destroyed, I don't have to worry about paying back all my loans anymore. Win-win!
