Kimarni Smith isn't a member of DC United anymore. And I wouldn't really call him a defender, either.
True, however, that is where he played so I wanted to compare position to position. Rodriguez, Gressel, Robertha, and Estrada all were better than 1 assist per 4 matches and Durkin was at that same rate, however, all of them played more attacking roles.
Curiously, he's still listed on the DC United roster page (and yes, i know he's gone) (and he's listed as a forward). https://www.dcunited.com/roster/ But if you click on him, you get a "You must be lost. This page doesn't exist" page with a picture of Andy Najar shaking his head at you in disappointment. https://www.dcunited.com/players/kimarni-smith I guess we'll get a sense of how much DCU staff monitor these pages these days based on how quickly this changes...
To be fair, the DC United roster page doesn't have proper roster statues for a few players signed *last* season, so it's never a full picture of accuracy.
This reminds me of the Washington Post soccer section all year. If you clicked on the 'schedule', all you got was the results for 2021. In fact, 2021 is still up (as of this post - I just checked.)!
So, what do we think our ideal lineup looks like? In the actual real world. Ignoring the fact that Santos and Najar are nominally LB/RBs, this might be dangerous: Fountas - Benteke - Najar Santos - Palsson - Canouse Jeahze - Williams - Birnbaum - Ruan Miller Assuming we don't get Klich across the line. If we do, I'd push Najar to RB, Santos moves up and Ruan sits.
I hope 4-4-2 Taxi, Benteke Rodriguez, Santos (10), Palsson, Ravel Jeahze, New guy, Birnbaum, Ruan Miller
Taxi, Benteke (Berry, Robertha) Rodriguez, Palsson, Ravel, Durkin (Hopkins, Santos, Najar, TKdP, Canouse) Jeahze, Williams, Birnbaum, Ruan (Greene, BHI, Pines, Samake, Santos, Najar) Miller (Zamudio, Bono) I also think Canouse is traded before the opening match, especially if Klich is brought on board. And, yes, I know Klich is not like for like with Canouse, but Durkin can slot into the Canouse role.
Yeah, with Canouse's age and injury history, I think he ends up on the outside here, but someone will need that position filled by a solid player and will make us a decent offer for him, I'd think.
Anyone know if this one is true? 1604169028238442497 is not a valid tweet id Trejo had just 3 sub appearances last season for LAFC for a total of 42 minutes (one appearance each in June, July, and August), but 14 goals and 5 assists for Las Vegas last season in USL Championship. DCU reducing stake in Loudoun. https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2022/12/27/greg-baroni-loudoun-united/
That comment might not be entirely off the mark but my understanding it's more off than not as this was a long time coming as part of a league-wide initiative for the next step in expanding MLS Next.
