Emre considers rival switch Sunday 4 July, 2004 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Emre Belozoglu could be the latest Inter flop to move across the San Siro to Milan following the arrival of several new midfielders. The Turkish international has struggled to find room under both Hector Cuper and Alberto Zaccheroni since arriving from Galatasaray in 2001. His influence on the squad is only set to further decrease after the Nerazzurri captured Esteban Cambiasso from Real Madrid and Chelsea’s on loan star Juan Sebastian Veron, while there are strong reports that Edgar Davids and Lazio man Cesar will also join them shortly. Milan have their ear to the ground and are said to be making a bid for the 24-year-old creative midfielder. He would arrive on a loan spell with an option to make the move permanent at the end of the season. This is certainly not the first straight switch between the local rivals, as Clarence Seedorf and Andrea Pirlo were sold to Milan after disappointing spells in the Nerazzurri area of the stadium. Meanwhile, Inter have made two new signings for their youth team from amateur French outfit FC Paris. Tijani Bel Aid is a central midfielder and Under-17 Tunisian international, while Kandja Loic Lumbilla is a centre-forward. channel4
I'm not a big fan of Emre. Plus, where and when would he play? Kaka, Seedorf, Pirlo, and Rui Costa are all better than him. The only way I see Milan signing him is if they offload Rui Costa before the season starts. And by all indications it appears Rui Costa is staying at Milan for at least 1 more year.
I agree, I don't see Milan's need for Emre. He's a good player, though. I'd like to see him make a move to La Liga.
If they want to offload him, send him to Lazio in exchange for Mancio. We'll take him, even though I've repeatedly said I think Emre is overrated and erratic. At this point, we'll take anything.
Suprise, suprise, you think a Turkish player is overated... Do you have a job? It seems like it is following me thread to thread. Anyways, Emre is young and the only thing that can dampen his career is his temper. I think Milan could use someone like him. He could replace Gattuso.
Whoa, there, RR, nicephoras is a regular poster in the Italy boards so there's no "stalking" going on here. I can't speak for other forums .... FWIW, I think Emre was misused at Inter, like so many before him. As you say, his temper is a drawback, but not dissimilar to others who have succeeded in Serie A. BTW, I wonder how he and Karagounis get (got?) along at Inter. Both hot-headed players essentially battling for the same position. And (I hope I don't to get this into any political or historical discussion), but isn't there a bad history between Greece and Turkey?
Not much anymore really. Things of the past. Emre has a temper, that is his only downfall. I think at Milan he could suceed. All he needs is playing time, anyways I hope he does go to Milan. Inter are idiots. Give the Turks playing time!!
Replace Gattuso? Are you serious? Emre is not a midfielder like Gattuso. Where's he going to play? He's not going to replace Kaka (plus Rui Costa is there already), Gattuso (they're different players), Pirlo (yeah, right).....so that leaves Seedorf? Plus, isn't Ambro still around? I don't see that happening. He needs a run in a lower tier side to establish himself as a quality SerieA player, something he has thus far failed to do. Which is why I said I'd be happy with him at Lazio. Just because I think he's overrated doesn't mean I think he's a bad player.
Are you on crack? Replace Gattuso?! He's a ball winning animal. Every squad needs a Gattuso, Davids, Keane, etc on their team. Emre is not that type of player.
What? No true fanatic could admit to their club's dire situation! This is why I respect you, nicephoras. You definitely have your opinion's but you're not blinded by your passion.
People tend to forget Emre is 23. Seedorf is 29, Gattuso is 26, Rui Costa is 34. Time for a change in midfield IMO. Emre would make a good fit. He should be playing Champions League football, and not for Lazio (sorry Nicephoras). Honestly though, how can we call someone overated that hasnt been given a fair chance to shine.
I'm a big fan, but I'm realist. I was lucky enough to be a fan for probably their best decade in Lazio's history. We won the double, and went far in the CL. We had a phenomenal team which played some beautiful football. I was lucky enough to see Pierluigi Collina decide the fate of our Scudetto by trying to bounce a ball on a soggy pitch, making up for a certian dodgy spot kick the week before. I watched the twighlight years of Mancio and Signori, and then the best years of Veron, Nesta, Vieri and so many others. I saw the incredible free kicks of Sinisa Mijahlovic (too bad he didn't look like Beckham ) and I watched us even the Scudetto count with Roma, even if for a year. I still maintain its only 2 each, of course, since they cheated for their title in the 40s. I've been pretty lucky to be a Lazio fan. Now our condition is pretty dire - but such is life. When I resumed following Lazio (I fist watched them while 9 years old in Italy for 3 months in the late 80s) we were on our way up. Now, we're in for a real retrenchment thanks to Cragnotti's foolishness. I think we'll get over it. Now, time to struggle for those UEFA cup spots. But they're my side, and at this point, I'm only too aware, sadly, that we need reinforcements wherever we can find them. So give us Emre. Please.
He can't replace Gattuso, because he's a very different player. He's also pretty different from Seedorf, who, at 29, doesn't need replacing. Rui Costa doesn't start anymore. He's not going to displace Kaka. No offense taken. We're not in the CL this year - can't dispute that. Heck, at this point, we couldn't guarantee Emre top flight football However, Emre would be sitting on the bench at Milan. Inevitably. Which is bad for his career. If he ever hopes to start for a team like Milan, he needs to prove that he can do it in the SerieA or another top league. Thus far he hasn't. Whether or not he's been misused at Inter. Saying he needs to play in the CL is fine, but he won't get any time on the pitch as a Milan player, especially with the EU requirements. Every time I've seen him play he's failed to live up to the tag you and certain other Turkish fans give him.
Yes, I agree. Besides winning the CL, Scudetto, Euro Super Cup, and Coppa Italia Milan's current midfield haven't done anything. Time for a change
What winning the Uefa Cup at Galatasaray wasnt enough? Honestly, I really do not believe he will end up in Milan, he does not want to go back to Turkey. He seems to have his heart set on suceeding in Italy, something Hakan Sukur and Okan did not do. Hopefully if he does got to Milan he will get some time. Look at Tommanson, he failed in England, and shined at Milan. If Emre plays around talent like Milan's, he could shine like he did at Galatasaray.
RuffRyder, your missing the point. If he were to go to Milan he wouldn't have a chance to succeed because he would constantly be on the bench. Emre is a good player but he is not good enough to crack the Milan starting eleven. He would be much better off to go to a club like Lazio, Parma, Bolgna, etc. to get guaranteed playing to improve his skills. I've seen alot of Emre in his time at Inter and he shows flashes of brillience but more often than not he just fades out of games. He needs to become more consistent. I'm sure Milan would take him as a reserve player for a good price but that only benefits Milan. It would hurt Emre in the long run if he became a bench player. Regarding Tomasson, he didn't play well at Newcastle but that wasn't his fault. He was being played on the wing away from his natural postion up front. He showed at Feyenoord that he was a class player. Emre needs to reassert himself at a lower club in Serie A or another league.
Understand, but a player of Emre's caliber should be playing in Champions League. That is all. We already had one idiot, who I will not mention turn down Champions League for Hertha Berlin. I do not Emre to make the same mistake. Emre at Lazio, Roma or Parma would not be bad at all, plus I heard Inter are just going to loan him anyway.
Your opinion of "Emre deserves to play in the CL" is based on your opinion alone. That's the problem; over the last two years he hasn't shown he deserves a starting spot on a CL team. Maybe a team like Bremen will have room for him. Your point about Tomasson is perfect, actually. After failing at Newcastle, he went to Feyenoord, a smaller side in a smaller league, where he succeeded. If Emre wants to play in the CL, he's going to have to go to another league, because it won't happen for him in SerieA. Inter just squeezed into 4th, and they can't even find room for him. As for winnig the UEFA cup again -
Does Emre want to move to MIlan? Look at what happened with players like Contra and Javi Moreno. I'd put my money on him making the move, rottin' on the pine, and then getting loaned out. Speaking of those guys, I'm tellin' ya, Emre should head for Spain.
Call him and tell him. Maybe Raneri wants him at Valencia. There was a slight rumor of him going to Barca.
While Ranieri does have a habit of collecting players, Emre wouldn't start at either of those sides. Especially Barca.
Lol, that seems to be the destination for salvation these days, "aww I hate this place! I'm going to Spain!"
