So.... Emma says she won't call in Cat until she starts getting time with Chelsea. Meanwhile, Sonia doesn't dress her for multiple matches, including Everton, which was just beat 5-0 to Chelsea. If she cant make that bench.... what bench can she make??? I don't think Chelsea has any real interest in Cat and couldn't care less of she ever "recovers" or what ever the excuse is now. So, I'm I think Emma should call her in for England and Netherlands to see what's going. Even it only as a practice player. Imagine if she actually played and showed well, the pressure it would put on Sonia to dress her? It's hard to believe that she's still hurt after ail this time? I wish she would get out of Chelsea, its a meat market
We may never see Cat make another major roster, some players have injuries that they never recover from. We are lucky to have such a deep player pool.
As hard as it may be to believe, it does look like she's still not recovered yet, at least not recovered enough to play significant minutes. I hope it's not the case, but Macario may never recover the kind of fitness she needs to play pro soccer. It is possible that she comes into camp for the medical staff to have a look at her, but I doubt she even gets listed as a training player if that's the case.
From Chelsea's pre-game press conference: Catarina Macario is progressing well but won't return in time to face Everton, while Lauren James remains absent.
Thanks for the info. What i don't get is Cat got some minutes 2 tines a few, games ago and even scored a goal, Then the story was they she was left hone to train with the staff. The article says "Catarina Macario is progressing well but won't return in time to face Everton" What the Hell is going on here? Chelsea beat Everton 5-0 AFTER Cat already played in 2 games. So that article is dated. Did she get hurt again after the 2 games she played in before Everton. I wish someone would give a give is a straight story on what's going on? Emma is the answer I think. I hope she calls Cat in for England... even if its just to train ... and has the medical staff check her out. At this point Im not sure we can believe anything Chelsea says. We have two USA NAT players on Chelsea, injured, and as little as we hear about Cat.... there's nothing about "big fish" at all
This was the Olympic story on Macario's withdrawal: "unable to prepare physically for the Olympic tournament due to consistent irritation in her right knee".
🚨 Sonia Bompastor confirms that Lucy Bronze and Catarina Macario are available for Sunday ✅🗣️ "Lucy and Catarina Macario are back in the squad, so they will be available for Liverpool on Sunday."#BBCFootball #CFCW pic.twitter.com/xY872azLed— Emily Herbert (@EmilyHerbertBBC) November 7, 2024 Macario available on Sunday.
I saw that in an it interview on the Chelsea site. Beyond that, Sonia also called her in a "creative player" later in the interview. I found that to be VERY encouraging. Lets see how much she plays.... if she sees the field
Saw that game and she looled very good. At least 3 good shots!...nice to see her back. I saw the Chelsea game on the DAZN app. It was free
And anyway, since Chelsea won what sure was "the big game" of FA-WSL, their coach must be doing something right.
In that game both teams made only two subs as it was tight until late. Well below their average 4.60 and 3.33 subs per game.
I know she's an exciting player to watch, but I want her fully healthy before seeing her in these relatively meaningless (sorry @jackdoggy) friendlies. Maybe she'll be ready for the SBC next year?
I agree, would rather see her playing full 90's before coming back into the USWNT fold. Don't need to be pushing her in her recovery, as slow as it has been.
How about she earn her way to the national team like everyone else. When is the last time she played a full 90 minutes? She has never proven herself beyond a couple of soft friendlies with the national team. If you recall she struggled quite a bit in her first action with the USWNT. Yes she has been labeled a big star based on her college days, but that has yet to come to fruition with the national team. The press conference in which Emma announced her withdrawal from the national team, it came off to me that extensive training causes her knee irritation. So I think this is on course to be a career long issue she will have to manage. As others have said, have her get her time with club up to a full match before handing her a national team spot.
It would be very interesting to see a healthy Macario and which area of the pitch she would slot in at. If I recall, we here on this forum, where uncertain if she was attacking material up top or midfield material. Where would Emma situate her. It has actually been so long, I thought she was the obvious replacement for Morgan. USWNT has a crowded, super crowded midfield and need help in the attack... Perhaps time will tell. Edit: Or we may never see her again at the national level. >shrugs<
