From what I have seen, Threads kind of sucks.
Now that more folks are on Bluesky, it occasionally feels like old Twitter.

He's not looking great either. Also, if one told me that he is obviously raging against his father, there's that. But he is obviously at that age where men start to look like someone's aunt.

It should also be added that the UAW has Tesla in their sights for unionizing (on top of 12 other automakers). Musk will be surprised to learn that the UAW is not one you want to mess with either, especially given their history.

And given Fain's nature, it'll be amusing to see Musk act like the man child that he is.

The UAW can want things, but there is zero desire among Tesla employees to join the UAW. Tesla employees - even factory workers - are paid well and get stock grants. They're not going to vote to unionize and lose their stock.

Meanwhile, the UAW is trying to strongarm my wife's company to unionize the techs, who are also well paid and get stock. They're not talking about any benefits for the workers, but they said they would talk to their contacts at the Department of Energy to ask them not to approve any grants to non-union companies. If the UAW wants to offer something good for the employees, let them compete, but they can't win over well paid California technicians that way, so they're instead playing political games to try to punish the companies.

I agree with this from Orosz. The point here is obviously just to blame "the advertisers" for the collapse of the company. No one who wants Disney and co to come back would do this.

Are you that partial to Tesla? Because this reeks of favoritism. I do know that any time there's been union organizing at Tesla the people involved tend to get fired. Which is telling. I also imagine the lax protections against union organizing also plays a part. It should be said that one of the Japanese car companies gave raises not long after an agreement was made between the Big Three and the UAW, which is also telling.

And where's this thing about losing stock coming from? Union employees can get stock options. They lose them as a result of unionizing, that suspiciously sounds retaliatory. Something that Musk would do.

It sounds like you don't know anyone who works at Tesla. I do. They don't want to join a union.

If the UAW was going to Tesla employees and saying "here's what we will do to make your work environment better and that's why you should vote to unionize", that's one thing, but the UAW is not doing that. They haven't offered anything, and if Tesla workers are feeling like they're not being taken care of, they can leave their jobs and get hired somewhere else very quickly. That may not be the case at the Tesla plants in Texas and Buffalo, but it is certainly the case here in the Bay Area and in Reno.

Elon said recently that if his workers vote to unionize, he would consider it a failure of his company. (link to Fortune article, behind paywall, with headline quoting Elon saying "If Tesla gets unionized it's because we deserve it"). The reality here in Silicon Valley is that unions haven't taken off here because employees generally quit if they're working for a bad employer - there are enough jobs and enough demand for workers with skills that workers can change jobs and generally get a pay raise instead of sticking with a bad employer and trying to make the employer do better by unionizing. Part of that is the California regulatory environment which is pro-worker - non-compete agreements are standard in many other states but are not legal in California, so workers can jump from company to company without worrying about violating a non-compete agreement, so companies have to treat workers well so the workers don't leave. Offering stock grants is another part of that.

So what is the UAW going to offer to get Tesla workers to join them?

Are these factory workers or white collar workers? And for the record, I actually do. Doesn't really mean anything though. Also, pay at Big Three companies is better than Tesla.

Elon shares the same mindset as Howard Schultz when it comes to unions. And that's pride. Also, wealthy white South African who believes in baasskap.

That's white collar work culture though, and even those views are changing.

Did you not just see what Big Three workers gained from the recent strikes? Toyota raised their wages not long after the strike, which is telling.
