Maybe but it's a bit worrying and, in any event, maybe it's only open protocol NOW! Maybe that's why the guy has put money in, so he can nobble it later on? TBH I get enough social media on here. I don't feel a great need to get any ther stuff and if I did I'd just use them, (bluesky or whatever), as a means of comms, a bit like the post offfice.
Talking about bluesky reminded me to check my feed and found this... https://bsky.app/profile/wallaceme.bsky.social/post/3lat47sgcjz25
So, how much did Elon pay for that, um, role as a consultant? I am shocked, shocked that "amount of money donated to Trump" appears to be a qualification for appointments to cushy government gigs.
Please listen to Mike Masnicks interview with Zitron about all this Masnick is the real deal and is now a board member of Bluesky. He would not be involved if it were so easy for Bluesky to screw everyone. The entire design of the protocol stops them from doing that.
Tim Miller and someone else think this might be a fake gig. They give some pretty good reasons for it. If Vivek was serious, they point out, he'd run for Vance's Senate seat. The also point out that it's called: "The Department of Government Efficiency." AKA DOGE. Get it, DOGE!!! Arrrr arrrr. The Libz are Pwned!
It's a joke, but it's also a way for them to get rid of regulations that affect their business. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has problems with Telsa's "full self driving" - guess which administrators are going to find themselves cut by the new efficiency department?
Correct, but the timetable for the report is an absurd date in 2026. Which doesn't mean they won't float some stupid ideas. But from what I can tell, this position has no authority. Of course, it's not like the Supreme Court won't reject challenges on the grounds that The NHTSA doesn't have standing in the court to bring a lawsuit, so . . .
The timetable is symbolic. July 4, 2026 - 250 years since the Declaration of Independence was signed. The purpose of this organization is to cut government jobs, with a chainsaw, not a scalpel, and ******** the rules that say they can't. The Bulwark guys were saying "well, when they cut food inspection and people start getting salmonella, there will be some blowback" but these guys don't care. Elon Musk isn't going to get salmonella from tainted food. They're going to take chainsaws to the government departments they don't like - NHTSA etc for Elon and the FDA for Vivek since he's a pharma guy - and break whatever rules exist and expect the courts to back them. It will be chaos - that's the point. Under that chaos there will be increased corruption, and that suits Trump and all the other grifters just fine. People protesting will get exhausted. And then on July 4, 2026, Trump will claim it's a massive victory as thousands are dying of salmonella (*). (*) ok, I had to look up if salmonella is fatal, and it usually isn't. My bad.
It does kill a few hundred people in the US yearly. Listeria less so. But the cases where it does kill is often tragic - children.
OK, thanks. Listening to it atm but the only thing is, if it's an open protocol that users can control, why does it need any funding, from anyone, let alone someone like the guy mentioned earlier? I've also checked out the wiki about it... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bluesky Anyway, I'll carry on listening and see what I think
You can sort based on how many people have used the starter pack. That might be a better way to go. I think I used Masnick's group. (the guy Jitty mentioned above)
Yes, I suspect the Department of Government Efficiency will find that NASA is much more efficient when they outsource everything to SpaceX. And corruption will be completely passé in a few months. "Oh, your congressman asked for a bribe? How adorable."
Finally a mainstream media publication has withdrawn its content from X. Obviously it's The Guardian but you have to start somewhere. Hopefully others will follow.
This makes me think of an Romanian politician from early 20th century, Alecu Constantinescu, nicknamed "The Pig", friends with the prime-minister from that time. When Alecu was offered 1 million Lei (Romanian currency) as a bribe "and nobody will find out", he replied "Just give me EIGHT millions and everybody can find out".
I believe The Guardian left & now St. Pauli German soccer club St. Pauli quits X ahead of snap elections, calls platform a "hate machine" https://t.co/UHVjN4S6fq— CBS News (@CBSNews) November 15, 2024
