Quoted from the DMN http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/spt/soccer/stories/061704dnspoburnlede.1b3ae.html said Greg Elliott, team president and general manager. "I think the bottom line is the name, for whatever reason, has never really caught on in the marketplace. As we begin a new chapter in Frisco, we have a chance to reintroduce the team with who we are and what we represent." GE has a total disregard of the solid growth of the team's fanbase year after year until the Southlake mistake. The name has never been a reason for the public not to attend. Team performance and the relationship that the front office has with its fans is the primary factor behind attendance. There isn't a name in any language that has the ability to catch on in the marketplace when the team owners treat the fans like HSG has the last couple of years.
Elliott isn't thinking in the past. If to not do that means he has to jettison the past, well, there you go.
Chamo, I am hurt and a little offended by HSG's actions as well. Give it time to heal. Maybe there is a method to GE's madnes.
As far as GE goes - I think he knows what is what, and he does the best for the team with the available choices, options, budget, rules, etc. He is in no way clueless. He is good at saying things in the PC Approved statement form for public consumption. What do you expect him to say in a newspaper interview? P.S. - S - I thought you weren't a Burn fan anymore...???
When all parties are apparently adopting change, I no longer see insanity. I see a brand new book unfolding with endless possibilities. Fan the passion.
The only constant is change. Those that have an identity crisis and fear change are living in the past and not accepting Now. This is 'clueless', and, therefore, insane. Individuals can choose to add their energy in adopting change, or they can continue with their identity crisis and be defined by the past. It is a matter (reality) of choice. Fear and self-loathing, or freedom for change. You choose.
"I think it's safe to assume that if we started the team today, Burn would probably not be the chosen name," said Greg Elliott, team president and general manager. Wouldn't that hold true for the Packers, 49ers, the Red and White Sox, Dodgers, Lakers, etc, etc? And let's say the franchise started today, would FC Dallas really be the chosen name?
Change is good, no doubt. As long as - 1. the right things are changed, and 2. they are changed in a smart way. In my opinion, which as a fan, basically means very little to HSG, 1. they were better off changing logo and color scheme rather than name, and 2. if a name change was in the cards, involve the fans in the name-changing process. That's why I think its pretty funny, and very "karmatic" that the fans have figured out the name so quickly and have completely ruined the "guess-the-name-we-have-already-come-up-with" promotion. HSG, and perhaps GE too, have consistently understimated Burn fans. This is just another example.
