Re: Ellis McLoughlin Signs w/ Heartha Berlin So his deal kicks in when he turns 18...interesting. It's like the Pato-ization of young American talent. ps. Hertha is the new Fulham. Had to be said.
Re: Ellis McLoughlin Signs w/ Heartha Berlin I don't know if I would want to be called the German Fulham. Does that mean Hertha is going down?
Re: Ellis McLoughlin Signs w/ Heartha Berlin from the article: from the few games i've seen him play, he didn't show me anything i would describe as "fast", but he has always had a nose for the goal. i'm stoked at the increasing number of our young 'uns who are getting good training at good clubs. they won't all pan out, but a few should really turn out to be real diamonds.
Re: Ellis McLoughlin Signs w/ Heartha Berlin Does this mean Hertha is going to throw him into the starting lineup next game?
Re: Ellis McLoughlin Signs w/ Heartha Berlin i am a scout for European teams aand i have a few teams asked me to look at Ellis. He is a very good player and given the right development will be a fantastic player for the US.
Re: Ellis McLoughlin Signs w/ Heartha Berlin it's been almost an hour since this post and no one has questioned this. amazed.
Re: Ellis McLoughlin Signs w/ Heartha Berlin I'm glad things are going well for him, since I was very underwhelmed with his performance in the U-17 WC.
Re: Ellis McLoughlin Signs w/ Heartha Berlin If I remember correctly, he was very sick during the U-17 WC. I think he had pneumonia or strep throat? That would probably explain why he didn't perform well.
Re: Ellis McLoughlin Signs w/ Heartha Berlin From what I saw that team had trouble stringing together more than 2 or 3 passes so I wouldn't spend too much time judging the forwards.
Re: Ellis McLoughlin Signs w/ Heartha Berlin The forwards looked as if they understood the game, but they were asked to do more than they could by the ineffective midfield play. They didn't shoot well, either. Ellis would scuff the ball a lot. I assume that was the aftereffect of his illness, that he lacked strength/energy. My extremely tentative take, based on Ellis's previous success in U17 games and what I saw at Worlds, is that the guy reads the game pretty well and might be a tactical/anticipation type forward.
Just wanted to point out that Preston Zimmerman signed for Hamburg before he was 18, since it hasn't been mentioned yet.
You know maybe Ellis McLoughlin should call up Preston Zimmerman for some pointers. Preston signed with Hamburg before he turned 18 and recently was called into a national team camp after scoring some goals for his reserve side.
Does anybody know whether Preston Zimmerman signed before the age of 18? Can't wait for the detailed response.
This trickle of young US talent to Europe is going to become a tidal wave. Scouting of American kids is only going to increase, and foreign player rules in many countries are being relaxed (or removed altogether). It's going to fun the next couple of years.
