Delighted. From looking like the worst team in CONMEBOL to looking the same as the last few years. We have a gem in Lapadula. What a player.
I'm actually glad your team won. I have nothing against Ecuador, but you guys got to Russia 2018 and you went to the final of the last continental tournament. I like and respect Gareca and he definitely needed the three points to be able to breathe a little.
Brazil made it 6/6. Did this ever happen that a team won all their first six games ? CONMEBOL isn't what is used to be. The quality behind Brazil has dropped off significantly.
Brazil 70 won its first 6 games. It was however a different format and those 6 games were the whole campaign. We beat each of Colombia, Venezuela, Paraguay twice.
Quality everywhere has dropped off in my opinion. I've noticed a decline since the 2018 qualifiers but we still had 4/5 teams get out of their World Cup groups. All in a European World Cup, where we often struggle. No team looks unreal collectively in international football. Even France who could do much better than the negative football they play with Deschamps. I still think Europe is better but it's a lot harder to see they've also declined because of their squad quality and not exactly using a "round robin" format.
https://argsoccernews.wordpress.com...schedule-of-2021-confirmed-two-superclasicos/ So Matchday Six is Sept 7 and Matchday Five is Oct 12?
Thread bump! Today's matches: Bolivia vs Colombia Ecuador vs Paraguay Venezuela vs Argentina Perú vs Uruguay Chile vs Brasil
If Peru wins today and makes it out of bottom, does Venezuela unofficially become the worst CONMEBOL side? (assuming they also lose). The narrative that Peru is the worst because we are currently bottom is silly, the qualifiers just began.
So Ecuador 2 - Paraguay 0 Colombia 1- Bolivia 1 Argentina 3 - Venezuela 1 Peru 1- Uru 1 Brasil 1- Chile 0 Cómo queda la tabla?
We are no longer bottom, so we are no longer the worst CONMEBOL side unofficially, according to some... It was an awful narrative to begin with.
Man, Ricardo Gareca is looking lost. He's reminding me of Pekerman in the 2018 cycle, but at least Pekerman tried new things and had a better squad. We don't have near the depth and Gareca insists on what worked in the ancient times. We are only 4 points behind thankfully but if we can't take advantage of everyone else dropping points, how do you expect to qualify? I still think we'll end up fighting but I don't see us making it this time. Gareca was known for his innovation and willingness to try new things. What on earth has happened to him.
You are from Peru? You guys are nowhere near the worst in Conmebol. I actually think you guys will get into Qatar in the 5th spot (via repechaje) after Bra/Arg/Ecu/Col. Hopefully. You are a good side with potential.
I don't think I share that confidence to be honest, but a lot of people were going out to say losing to Peru is embarrassing because we are bottom, failing to realize that qualification had just begun... Nearly halfway now, and still it's a ridiculous statement.
Are people still underestimating Peru? You guys proved yourself in the few last copa americas to say the least. I say you guys have the team to fight the 5th spot against chile Uruguay or paraguay.
Yes, and they will continue to do it until we have a player at Bayern or something. It's kind of embarrassing to be honest.
