Kerry just sort of hemmed and hawed and finally said, "Well, that doesn't matter." What shocked me was that Brokaw would put the dumb Bush rumor down, on National TV, directly to Kerry.

I do believe that Bush is stupid. I also believe his intelligence is underrated. The guy who does the Bushisms for Slate argued that Bush has chosen the path of stupidity, as a way of getting ahead and to stay on the straight and narrow. If stupidity is indeed Bush's choice, I dare say it is a pretty shrewd choice. The stupidity has certainly helped his appeal among voters.
