Look at this post from USLdiscussions.com: (from "vox") Got back today from talking with Diana Cervantes at the Patriots' offices. Lots of changes coming, but apparently, paraphrasing Mark Twain, Reports of the Patriots' death have been greatly exaggerated. 1) They WILL be in the A-League this next season (sorry to all those anti-Patriots fans in the Pacific Northwest) 2) They will be in the Western Conference's Central Division (sorry to all in Milwaukee, Minnesota, etc.) 3) Diana and cheerleading director Laura Rayborn have both bent Enrique's ear toward actually getting a full office staff, which would be an absolute first. (Leave it to a daughter and another shapely female to soften Enrique's heart and wallet. Nah, that's never happened before, has it?) 4) Still a "definite possibility" the Pats might be moving to the Sun Bowl. Diana as much as confirmed that UTEP's Special Events staff, led by Carol Roberts-Spence, wants them there to help market the stadium to other soccer teams for big-but-elusive exhibitions, and to help market the team and their co-product, which is also huge. Whether in part or in whole, there will be matches at the Sun Bowl. Very interesting conversation. Diana and Laura -- who actually has more connections around town than most people might think -- have been calling and reassuring sponsors in the light of Mitch Doblado's departure. Expect most to stick around. It's VERY interesting that the cheerleading director actually has the kind of clout that Laura wields, but she does, and the franchise is better for it. The Patriots have also officially started their soccer academy, which begins within the next couple of weeks with over 100 kids set up and ready to go. They've also secured their accreditation with one of the big youth leagues (STYSA?) to sponsor a private league to develop the youngsters. Chuy Enriquez will head up this project. As an aside, Miguel Angel Murillo, who co-engineered this season with Enriquez, will not be back. SURPRISE, SURPRISE!!! I guess it just boils down to Enrique wanting results and not wanting to wait anymore after eight years with Mitch. I know Mitch will land on his feet -- if you can sell, you'll always have a job. Who they'll get -- who knows? But they do want a marketer with a solid rep, which was encouraging to hear. They aren't stepping back. At least this season. Cervantes has spent a boatload, but it looks like he's ready to spend some more. Cool.
