This is certainly true for strikers and CBs, and probably for deep lying play maker types. Less true for fullbacks, attacking midfielders, and wingers.
I don't see very many wingers either. Are there 5-6 teams worth of Robben or Ribery level wingers? Ironically the least competitive position right now is the one Kante plays. Personally I wish we would just become a system team, so we could get beyond needing to buy the top 4 in a position to compete. Use or "wealth" to change the system every 2 or 3 seasons.
This is so true. A weird side effect of having so many super clubs is the talent is getting simultaneously stockpiled and diluted. The quality of football is definitely hurting, ESPECIALLY at the forward position. City have got it right in this regard. Since the takeover they've been throwing money at their academy. They know the only way to get good players in the next ten years will be to develop them yourself.
Which players have come out of it looking good aside from Iheanacho? It's always tricky with Youth as a long term solution. You may get a period where you're producing good quality players, like United or West Ham but not sure how sustainable it is.
Regarding the rumors that Sanchez wants out, I'm of two minds. With his international commitments he's running himself into the ground playing nearly year around. After the 2014 world cup he was very good in his first season at Arsenal, but then after playing a second consecutive summer for Chile, his production for Arsenal slipped this year. With the Centennial Copa America scheduled for this summer, I'm not sure his production for Arsenal will be any better next season.
In a New York second. I'd probably make that swap even if Sanchez didn't have any international commitments this summer.
In a heartbeat. Lewan would be a perfect fit as our ST. We can find cheaper wingers that would compliment him and the net result would likely be a more effective offense.
his production had slipped in 2015, period. Once Ozil and co came back and he wasnt allowed to do whatever he wanted in attack and had to stay left. Honestly, if we can get someone else, id be fine with Sanchez leaving.
I guess it is a consensus so far....I would definitely do it. I would even add a 10 or 15 m if needed. So much easier to find very good winger (left or right) to replace him than a top CF. Arsenal could go after Reus or Fekir or to cover the wings.
Indeed. I realize he scored goals again recently , but overall He was frustrating to watch. Couldn't beat anybody off the dribble, became a turnover machine, made really dumb decisions, tried to play superhero .
He's rumored to be ready to move on to another league and Bayern has shown interest in adding Alexis.
Did somebody say Jokes?? What about some of the ones we SIGNED !?!? Squillaci, Chamakh, Santos, Miyaichi, Chu-Young, Sanogo, Kallstrom, oh my!
He went over why he was shipped out from Barca. Essentially he can't/won't hold his position, which weakens the team over all, as it opens up passing lanes, and escape routes. That despite scoring in games he was a net negative in many games as he can't be relied upon to play his role in the system. Funny enough he actually used himself as an example at Barca in games where he would do the same things. He couldn't be relied upon to hold his position and without that discipline and shape he wasn't complimenting the system. You can be a legendary player, and be great or you can be a great player and have the system turn you into a legendary team. Sanchez does and is neither. He's a good player who contributes to the degradation of the system. He's an example of a good player who gets worse when playing with other good players. Where Ozil and even Ramsey for example gets better.
The Villareal forward is a good look. He's got some touch, combines with his teammates, has pace, looks very mobile Bakambu, he's been scoring around 0.5/game this season
