I was really dissapointed when he picked Switzerland despite being born in Colombia and living in our beloved country for 12 years.Good to know he is doing well in Swiss NT.

    On another subject:

Do you guys think Fifa will change their rule and allow players to choose again on their NT prefence?

I say that you should only be allowed to play for where you were born, but that's just me.......

But how about a player that was born in a country and moved away at a young age and was raised elsewhere?

that happened to me, but I would still only play for Colombia.......not USA, I love this country, but I love Colombia more........but like I said, that's just me.....if you want to play for your 'adoptive' country, go ahead, its allowed, as long as you haven't capped for anyone else.

He moved at the age of 11-12, not 15. If he were in Colombia now, perhaps he could be playing on a nice beach... Who knows?
And stop writing that we stole Vonlanthen. TO STEAL means to take away, we didn't take him away, HE CAME.

Mr. Ilovecolombia, I understand you somewhat.
As I already told you in the swiss forum, Switzerland too had lost several players because they were lured by their parents' countries, even if born and raised in Switzerland. Some of them played for major countries (Neuville for Germany and Di Matteo for Italy) and perhaps another one will follow (Chiumiento flirting with Italy). Not to count other minor players like Mitreski or Petric. And being Switzerland performing pretty well in the junior tournaments riight now, a lot of talent scouts are trying to "steal" our players.

So it is stealing when it happens to the Swiss but when the Swiss steal it isn't?

It's 2 different matters and let me explain you properly what I meant:
we didn't come to Colombia and ask him "Hey Johan would you like to play for Switzerland, your father's country?", as other countries did to some of our players. If we did so, we would have stolen, as you said.
BUT Johan came as a teenager to Switzerland and was then FIRST selected to play for our junior teams.
Perhaps it's just you that noticed him a bit too late? Even if he's only 18, Vonlanthen has been playing in a professional team since 2001...

wrong his parents are both colombians

he wasnt good enought to play on our team in 2001 ....colombia has enought talent to try give a youngster playing on a oscure swiss team a chance on our sellecion during a wcq crisis

No it isn't it is the same thing. Don't try and be high and mighty here. If the Swiss didn't steal him then nobody stole any players from the Swiss.

he was ours to begin with you think colombia was going to put a 16 year old teenager playing in switzerland on our NT when we had top goalscorers in argentina, mexico, italy and a striker playing on real madrid?

the swiss didn't steal him, they gave him an opportunity, which in Colombia is very hard to come by, he was in ajax (i think that's his club) before being called up to the NT, why didn't Colombia call him up? cause unless you're already stablished (playing in Colombia, Argentina, or Europe) no one looks at you............

Just like Junior Ischia ( I don't know how to spell his last name), his dad is Argentino, but he was born in Colombia, and wants to play for Colombia, that's what I call love for the land you were born in, but also if you love and they don't love you back, can you really blame Volanthen?....

I can't believe people actually when along with ILC conspiracy theory that Swiss stole Vonlanthen.

He made the desicion to play for Swiss team and not Colombian team.He said that his love his native land but Swiss gave him a chance. There was an article on Fiffa official site on why he picked Switzerland.

Too bad Colombia didn't call him up.Would have been nice to see Volanthen playing along side Angel.Providing some support and taking some of the pressure off Angel.
