English refs will carry a bias.

As I said in another thread, is much easier to take a player with natural intensity, aggression and fight and dial it back than it is to take someone limp and try to instil it.

We have needed more of these attributes in the squad as a whole - so is a positive thing for me that am sure EtH will be able to manage.

Rojo had 122 appearances for United and zero red cards. Watch his highlights and you’d think he had at least 20.

This amazes me. How many times did he get 2 yellows?

So all those red cards I remember coming at the worst time for his team were for Argentina? A team I care little about?
    Humph

That article is better than the analysis from the weekend, but I think it will depend. He could get bullied by bigger, stronger players. But in saying, most teams now employ smaller, more mobile attackers. Lisandro is comparable to them in height.

MotM easily. Hopefully that’s shut some people up. Probably not.

He pinged some good balls forward, was very aggressive, and always seemed to be in the right place at the right time. Only blemish was when he nearly scored an own goal, but de Gea reacted well.

I could be wrong, but I think it was Bruno that almost scored the own goal and Lisandro was on the line trying to clear it. But I could for sure be wrong. Might have to go back and watch it.

Both things happened - Lisandro blocked Bruno’s wild swing in the 1st half, and then almost OGed himself in the last 10 mins, which De Gea tipped wide.

I'm not sure why the pundits were so quick to doubt him. Admittedly, I wasn't sure what to expect. I've never seen him with Argentina the times I'd seen them (e.g., Finalissima) and for Ajax, I'd only seen the Dortmund rout. Timber stood out more because he was the one who marked Haaland mostly. I think that's why were more interested in Timber originally.

The height thing makes little sense. Most of the attackers now are about his height. Varane can look after Haaland like Timber did. In Europe, I think a lot of the referees will give Lisandro more of an advantage if the big man tussles with him.

If his name was Seamus McDickenharry, would he say the same thing?

Interesting video. Compares Martinez to Cannavaro stylistically
