Congratulations to Ronnie Ekelund, Brian Mullan and Lindsey's sister!       GO EARTHQUAKES!!! -G P.S. = Funny how the press release lists Mullan's last club as Creighton University.
Yes, this is great news. This team should just keep right on rolling. But it's got me worried that there's no news about Goose. I'm just wondering, since we were able to satisfy Ronnie (as I recall, he wanted more money), does that mean we're not gonna have enough money to satisfy Goose?
Most excellent!! Mullan was great last year. Now that he's signed for the next few seasons we can be confident of our right wing spot. Ekelund has been such a great player for us and has really held our midfield together. This is fabulous!! I need a beer! But only for celebration purposes!! GO QUAKES!! - Mark
Ronnie was not asking for more money than last year, but more money than the Quakes were offering in negotiations for a new contract. I'd be shocked if he didn't take a fairly significant pay cut from last year. Just so everyone's clear, Mullan was already under contract if I'm not mistaken, in the low 30+ range of salary. I believe since he basically proved how valuable he is to the Quakes last year, the team/MLS negotiated an extension of his contract at I'm sure a higher price. Well done all around. As far as Goose goes, remember what he said when he accepted congratulations from Garber after the MLS Cup? Something like he'd like some of Adu's money or something like that. I suspect he's one of the "grizzled" veterans who ain't too happy about taking a pay cut at the same time a 14 year old becomes the highest paid player in the league. Could be a long standoff.
Great news! Where is the Cup game being played this year? I need to start planning my trip to watch the Quakes win it all again this year.
WOOHOO!! I'm soo happy to hear that these two resigned. They are irreplacable! This has just brightened my day a whole lot!! Now we just need Goose and we are set to go!!
Fantastic new! Without either of those two, our run for a third championship would have been doubtful. I think Ronnie still has quite a few soccer pitches left in those legs and Brian was an absolute incredible suprise last year. Now we just need to sign Agoos and we will be back in business. Go Quakes! CA Sucks!
This is fantastic news. Just like last year, the off-season looked so bleak for us. This time, we lost Frank and Johnny, we had the moronic spoutings from a potential new owner in CA, the prospect of no Landon until August and a midfield without one of the most saavy guys in MLS--Ronnie. So glad it has all turned on a dime! Now... * Got Dom as coach. * AEG is yawning and saying "yeah, right" in response to CA's chest-thumping. * Someone other than people on this bulletin board are having SERIOUS discussions about a new stadium all our own!!!!!!!! * Landon is staying put (though I'm sorry for his disappointment.) ...and happily, THE DANISH GANGSTER IS BACK!!! I'm also delighted that Brian Mullan was rewarded for busting his arse for us all year long!! Way to go, guys!!
Interesting turn of events, to say the least!       We pretty much forsaw Dom's signing on as coach even before Frank's official departure, and we knew that certain players could be re-signed (though we weren't sure how likely)... but the rest of your points came completely out of the blue.       I'm not sure that a defending champion of any league should have such a roller-coaster offseason, but if it all turns out positive in the end (especially the SSS), then it's certainly worth all the hassle (which is undoubtedly easier to say in retrospect than when it's actually happening).       GO EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
