very healthy debate going on in the Sounder mls site, a fan posted that he was concerned about EJ's attitude and how it might impact the club. personally, I dont care, as long as the production is there AND the team is winning. But, I can also see what some might have a problem with, I mean, I followed this guy on twitter for a few weeks and had to stop, all he does is re-tweet every fan comment about how great he is. like I said though, as long as he keeps scoring, I'm fine with a self-absorbed striker. thoughts?
It doesn't seem to be messing with the team chemistry at all so I'm fine with it. It seems like he's settled in. However, if it ever becomes a situation where he won't pass to Fredy in front of the goal because he wants to be the goal leader, then I'd have a problem.
Meh. The guy scores goals... If he were a pompous ass and didn't score goals, then I'd have an issue, but since he's killing it, I don't have a problem.
Strikers with egos are as common as wide receivers being divas, it comes with the territory. I agree that as long as he and the rest of the team are scoring and winning there is nothing to worry about. But you can imagine it getting ugly if the team stops scoring and winning.
Shut up. Just shut up. He's gone what...a game without scoring? He distributed well in the Chivas game despite his alleged "pouting". Since we've retired the Fredy is Lazy meme for the year is this the new one to fret about? Jesus ********ing Christ.
I don't think he's self-absorbed. I think he feels he still has to prove himself to doubters, so the retweeting of the positive comments is just as much motivation for him as it is proving his doubters wrong. Sure his play on the field is a better way to prove that point, but for the time between the games it's what he does. Of course if you follow his twitter he also seems to get along with his teammates, and his relationship with Fredy has visibly improved. He's arguably the most energetic with his reactions to the Sounders scoring (even if it's not his goal), so I don't think there's a real attitude problem.
who are you telling to shut up bro? it's just a conversation to pass the day, calm down, nobody's calling for his release, he's been money.
Its a ********ing stupid conversation is what it is. There is nothing to discuss or converse about. People stay away from the official sounders forums for a reason.
most conversations on message boards are stupid, if you think it's stupid, dont participate, it's just mindless fodder, not that big a deal
1. Is EJ a scoring machine? Yes. 2. Are we winning? Yes. 3. Is this a problem? Refer to questoions 1 and 2. End of non-story.
I started wondering about team chemistry when he joined to be honest. Similar to how N'kufo would rag on people when they effe'd up, I see Johnson frequently throwing his arms up in the air or complaining about screwed up plays. Whether or not this is detrimental to the teams chemistry, I have no idea, but we are performing well and Sigi keeps playing him... so if there is a problem that isn't being dealt with that's for Sigi to decide. In the meantime lets keep winning.
It's your fault for bringing up to BS.com. There are a lot of stupid posts from the supporter's section of soundersfc.com. It's the reason I don't go there anymore. I only go there to see some posts from Matt's blog.
I've noticed that the general populace of Seattle sports like to create drama where there shouldn't be any. There is also kind of a weird deal where we like to cheer for the guys that really aren't that good just because they "work hard." And then, to top it off, there is a general bafflement as to why big name players don't want to come here. Really, part of the reason is exemplified in this thread. For a portion of the Seattle fan base, it doesn't matter how you perform if you get labeled as a "lazy" person or a "malcontent." Perhaps this could be said of any sports town, I dunno. I just find it odd that two of our best goal scorers are consistently brought up as "people to trade" due to perceived shortcomings while we groan and gnash our teeth when people who haven't performed nearly as well get traded.
Compared to the treatment star players get in other cities, their treatment here in Seattle is tepid at best. Yeah, we're programmed to expect our sports teams to be train wrecks waiting to happen, but the actual attacks are from a small minority of fans and would barely register in comparison the attacks star players get in other cities. If this were NY or LA, Montero would have been run out of town by now, EJ would be circling the bowl as a malcontent and a locker room cancer, etc, etc.
What drives me up a wall about the general sports fan in Seattle is the general requirement the player must be as squeaky clean as Wally Cleaver. As soon as a touch of Eddie Haskel enters the persona, then the player is instantly labeled as trouble, a cancer in the clubhouse, a menace to society, and he's definitely NOT the type of player we want extolling the prinstine virtuousness of all things Seattle. The problem is, if a team truly wants to move on to the next level and, heaven forbid, win, then a touch of Eddie Haskel on the field is oftentimes just the ticket to make that jump. I think Eddie H (and Eddie J) are doing just fine. Of course, if Eddie starts committing felonies and knocking off liquor stores and Top Top donut establishments, then all bets are off.
I like this thread. Every time we criticize one of our players, he immediately answers with an amazing performance on the next game.
Indeed. Last season there was a Montero is lazy thread right before he went on one of his blaze of glory streaks. Heh. Someone needs to start a Hurtado and Parke suck thread. We could really do with them catching fire.
I havnt heard anyone label him that, have you? besides, it's not different in other cities, depends on the level of contribution the player makes
