Re: EJ & Adu: Aris Salonica vs Panthrakikos, 6/2/2010, 16:45 greek time I was there. There were (supposedly) 13,000+ tickets sold, and all of us crammed up under the overhang. It was also my then girlfriend, now wife's first live soccer game so it's something I remember for more reasons than one.
Josh Childress left the Atlanta Hawks a year ago as a free agent to sign with Olympiakos. He considered the wisdom of the move during the championship series with Panathinaikos when he saw the stunning amount of passion for the game the Greeks possess. Flares on the court and such freaked him out, but he stayed on. Atlanta has done well without him. At the time, it was suggested that more might follow him to Greece, where a mid-level NBA player earns a good deal more money than he would in the U.S. I'm not sure how this trend played out.
At home finally. Whole day full of Aris! So i was here The rain was really insane, i dont know why the match started or at least referee should postpone it after some minutes of playing. Anyway i hope we win tomorrow and hoping for Adu entrance EJ made really good moves as long as field let him. And a nice shot which i hoped was a goal. Competition rules do vary. In Spain, they would continue the game from half time. In England, they would call it an abandonment and replay the entire thing.
Not like preseason games count for anything but I remember the San Antonio Spurs absolutely thrashing Panathinaikos in a 2007 NBA preseason game. I had to leave because it looked like the Spurs might fall asleep. A nice little retirement league for an NBA player I'd imagine.
Don't worry...if Cuper is any type of coach AT ALL, he'll read this thread before tomorrow's second half.
Nick Calathes left Florida after his soph year to play in Greece. He Greek family and spoke the language growing up, but was also heading to being a first or second round draft pick - and still was drafted in the second round even though he went to Greece. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nick_Calathes http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=4201710 http://www.nba.com/draft2009/ And potentially a handful of High Schoolers could go to Europe a la Brandon Jennings instead of being forced to go to college in order to wait till they are draft eligible. Any word on a restart time tomorrow to get things back on topic?
I am glad that after the postponement of the game due to rain while Adu was warming up that nobody added Mother Nature to the conspiracy list against Adu...
A video i made for bigsoccer fans. Ej actions at first half. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U5l0uwwE0qM"]YouTube- Eddie Johnson Aris Panthrakikos First half, second half postponed[/ame] Lets hope that Aris will turn the match today, although its raining again so we dont know if it will start.
Thanks for the clip. EJ seems to be able to use his speed to good advantage against the defenders he has been up against so far. I believe Aris supporters were saying defenders in the league tended to be physical but not very fast. EJ is getting the looks on goal - hopefully he starts to put more into the net.
Hello everyone. I m on a balcony again Bad news it seems. There is monsoon again and the field is at same situation as yesterday. Lets see if referee starts the match.
Is this amount of rain typical for Greece this time of year? Also, just noticed your avatar--that's great. Edit: come to think of it, my Ignatz is in Aris colors too.
Thessaloniki is a port so we have much Humidity and rain, but this is too much, especially for February. Thanks Ignatz is sweet too!
Johnson with a shot at the top of the box but right at the keeper. Should have done better but I imagine the turf conditions did not help.
Sorry I'm a late to the thread but is there a reason Adu is not playing? And will Aris use subs with only 45 to play today?
I would imagine they are treating it like it's the second half yesterday. Subs at 65 would be my guess.
