Sounds like a good switch to me. Hopefully more folks will be able to come out and watch with the summer weather ... that and whoever's in Europe will be well into their season as opposed to jumping straight into it.

    C'mon Bohs!

I'm glad to see TV3 are showing live games. When I was living back home the chances of seeing a live match on RTE were very slim.

What's the TV3 production like? Any time RTE did cover domestic football it was usually on a budget of about a tenner. Forget about interviews, analysis, camera angles etc!

Not even sure who's in Europe, outside of Bohs, who'll be in the first Champions League qualifying round.

I think I saw on there that Cork City might get in the UEFA Cup through the Fair Play ranking.

First result of the new season, poor start for the Candystripes.

    Derry City 2-3 Longford Town

    Other results:

    Bohemians 1-0 UCD
    Shamrock Rov 0-0 Drogheda Utd
    Waterford Utd 0-4 Shelbourne
Cork City 0-0 St Patricks Ath

Not exactly the best of starts for waterford.

I was at home over the Christmas, and I thought TV3 did a great job with the Eircom League round up they did on Monday nights, even though it's hosted by that fat fecker they have doing all the sports. What's with his dopey accent? Anyway, then they showed the Bohs-Shels game, where Bohs clinched the title, and I thought they did a good job there too, the camera work was pretty good.

All in all, I'll be disappointed if Bohs don't win at least their first European game. I mean, they drew 1-1 with Skonto Riga last week, and jaysus, they beat Spurs 3-1! And now they have Andrei Pereplyotkin back...

Usualy one promoted side goes staright back down in the Eircom League. Looks like that will be the fate for Waterford.

    Summer soccer for Ireland

"The Irish Premier Division begins its experiment with summer football this weekend, hoping the new season structure will bring results at home and abroad."

    http://www.uefa.com/footballcentral/news/Kind=2/newsId=64053.html

I hope this works out, because it might allow the Irish teams to be more competitive in the European Cups.

I just noticed the 2003 league thread, but I can't delete my message. It would be nice if a moderator could move this thread to the 2003 league thread.

    Mod-Done!

I'm curious to see if the attendance picks up by playing during the summer.

Former Bohemians and Bray Wanderers midfielder Davy Williamson played for the Connecticut Wolves last season so I'm hoping he lands with a club in Ireland.
