Yes, Ajax play with a deep double pivot and he paired up with Marin as one of the two MFs.

We’ve never had a tall CDM on the National team with great ball control. Closest thing I can remember to that is when Rafa started getting old and he played in that position

Do you think he is most likely to replace Blind or Marin?

  8. I think Blind will move back to the left back position.

It's really not clear yet. ten Hag is still rotating players. He didn't like the way Marin lost position in a couple of the early matches and played Mazraoui in the MF. I think Blind stays in the MF as he is the best passer on the team. He will cover at center back when Martinez gets suspended for YC accumulation;). A lot of us thought that Alvarez was brought in to replace de Ligt but I'm not sure that's the case. He said that his best spot is at DM though he can also cover at RB. Last season ten Hag played most of the season with only 13-14 outfield players, doing very little squad rotation. He was really lucky that nobody had long term injury issues and there were very few suspensions. He has a much deeper team this season and I expect to see player rotation particularly if they make it past APOEL in the CL Playoffs.

there is a nice interview with Alvarez from Ajax televison (no English subtitles but you can understand Alavarez as he doesn't speak Dutch yet)

I hope he’s not seen as Martínez’ direct competition. Dude is a lock in his position.

He's not. Martinez is left footed and probably will move out to FB next season when Tagliafico leaves.

    Ajax looked terrible against APOEL

Good news for Edson is that their DM got a red card

Absolutely and the trainer is trying to fit some round pegs in square holes. IMO, he needs to slot Alvarez into the MF since that is where he is best suited. Maybe he is not as good a passer as Blind but he is quicker and a better defender. The Dutch FA didn't do Ajax a favor by rescheduling this weekends match as they now do not have an opportunity to make 'real game' adjustments to the lineup.

    Ajax will be fine.

    They are searching.

Do not forget Ajax was everything but solid last year at this time. They lost against PSV with 3-0 and Vd. Beek did not even start that game.

Mazraoui, Veltman and Marin (so far) suck. Besides that they are pretty good.

Hopefully Alvarez can replace one of those three guys.
