I think they are limiting attendance to 6,000 in an arena that seats about 51K.

Seems like Van De Beek is going to Man U. Ajax just lost their 2 best midfielders/players.

Hopefully Alvarez can establish himself as a starter this year and continues to improve.

That explains why Ajax was/is looking at Atuesta from LAFC. If he ends up signing for them, I think Edson will have a great partner. [emoji108][emoji106]

i watched the match yesterday. Alvarez finished the match playing on the back line as the right central defender. He had one horrible back pass that almost led to a goal. He needs to really work on this part of his game as passing is the one weakness that will hold him back.

Yup....that’s been one of his problems from the get go. He’s always good for one bad brain fart.

I don’t think he’ll be able to cut it at Ajax but let’s hope I’m wrong for the sake of the NT.

Alvarez in the starting lineup against Sparta Rotterdam. Ajax up 1-0 in the 79th minute.

He had a solid match today. Ajax played with 10 men for 60 minutes when a very poor call was made by the central referee sending Tagliafico off. I didn't see much wrong with Alvarez. He had some very good passes and was solid. I gave him a sold 7 for the game.

  11. You know it always a right call to send off an Ajax player;)

Strong match today with two cracking shots on goal, one was well saved and the other went just wide. Had one cheap give away in the first half but that was the only flaw in his game. His passing was much better today as was his field awareness.

Alvarez sent off a minute before the half for what was an incidental stomp on the Vitesse winger. VAR told the CR to take a look and after the review van Boekel gave the Red Card. This is always called a Red in the Dutch league and Ajax benefited in exactly the same way last season.

Upon review, the Dutch FA overturned the Red Card that Alvarez received. He is eligible to play tomorrow against Groningen and is expected to start in the MF. As a reminder to those in the US, ESPN+ stream Ajax matches and tomorrow is the early game (6:15 AM EDT so it's really early for those living in California).

Nobody stood out for Ajax in a 1-0 loss at Groningen today. As with all the other players, Alvarez was nether good nor bad. He had a header on a cross that sailed over the bar but I don't think he could have done any better as the ball was not enough in front of him. He was involved in the play leading up to the goal, one on one against a Groningen player inside the box. He kept decent position and forced a shot to the far left side of the goal. Onana could not get a good parry on the ball and it went straight to a Groningen player for a shot on what was an empty net. Alvarez did have a very good challenge in the box saving what would have been a one on one with the keeper.
