What’s up with Edson? Thought he had gained a starting spot?

Looks like Alvarez will start along side Martinez against Valencia today.

A mid table Spanish side that will never play in Europe doesn't sound like a wise choice. Alvarez came into the Ajax team after the league season already started and missed considerable training time. I think he can succeed at Ajax but he really needs to speed up his decision making if he hopes to stay in the MF. There are going to be openings next season as Ziyech and van de Beek both depart.

It's a joke based on Diego Lainez deciding to join Betis instead of Ajax and having a hard time....well, getting time on the field.

I never said the joke was funny.

Thanks! We'll see how this season turns out. One other possibility is that current DM, Lisandro Martinez moves to LB when Tagliafico departs and Alvarez takes over as the primary DM. Ajax really don't have a youth player as good as those two right now.

I think Edson has had important moments so far with Ajax but his adaptation is still ongoing.

This is a very good team we are talking about, he needs to show more in order to beat out some of the guys he's competing with.

Alvarez with the start in MF today because of injuries to 3 of the Ajax back four. He had a nice first half with some good interventions.

Alvarez had a very good game today in a loss. He won some important challenges and played the full 90. He had a real good entry pass to Huntelaar that created a chance on goal. He had one lapse when he misplayed the AZ striker but managed to force him wide where there was no clear shot on goal.

Daley Blind is out until next year. Martinez will play in the back and Alvarez is likely to start. Cup match on Tuesday against Telstar then ADO den Haag on the weekend. Team is off until mid January

Yes, he was really defensively strong against a club that has some very good passers and attackers. I liked his game yesterday!!!

The passing statistic is misleading. a lot of his passes were horizontal or to the back line. this is the one area he needs to work on. It involves field awareness and where his forward players are. I think it will come in time.
