Would-be US left back Edgar Castillo is supposedly in-country and expected to play for Tigres tonight in Foxboro at the SuperLiga semis against Santos. Guzman isn't the only link between the two clubs. U.S.-born defender Edgar Castillo spent three years with the Torreon-based club before departing to join Club America. Guzman brought Castillo to Tigres when he took over the side in late May. "We play against Santos, which is a great team, and a place where I had plenty of good moments," Castillo said. "It's great to have an opportunity to play against my old team and hopefully defeat them -- we want to win." http://web.superliga2009.com/news/a...tent_id=5876792&vkey=news_superliga&fext=.jsp I really hope this kid plays tonight as I'm very much looking forward to a chance to watch him closely and evaluate his plusses and minuses as a player.
Tigres up early on one of the worst-defended corners I've seen in a while. Castillo not involved at all.
Yeah, he got faked out twice in a row. One shot hit the post the other went high. Santos seems to be going at him, too.
He does have good feet though and seems fast. Very comfortable on the ball and he just won a corner standing on the opposing endline.
Goal Tigres. Castillo won a tackle in his side of the field, dribbled forward about 30 yards into the Santos side, passed to the left mid who took a few dribbles before whipping in a nice cross that Kikin Fonseca scored. Secondary assist by MLS standards.
As a sidenote, after his classless attempt to hack down Eddie Johnson a couple of years ago, I do like seeing Oswaldo "Dirty" Sanchez getting beaten like a rented mule.
Castillo with a nice tackle. After a couple of rough head-to-heads with #28 for Santos, Edgar seems to have figured him out and won the last 3-4 battles they've gone at each other.
Santos pull one back. 2-1 Quintero beat Castillo. BTW, there is an English stream on the Superliga home page link in post 1.
BTW, #28 for Santos, the guy that Castillo has been battling with mostly, is Colombian international Carlos Quintero. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carlos_Quintero And, he just scored, beating Castillo to a cross as Castillo was ball-watching.
My Spanish isn't near good enough to pick up all they're saying in the broadcast but they seem to be talking about Castillo A LOT and I don't think it's all just because he's been involved in a lot of the play.
Are the lineups here just completely wrong? http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/match?id=276028&league=CONCACAF.SUPERLIGA&cc=5901 I'm guessing so, since Castillo and Fonseca are not listed.
Castillo springs out ahead of a clearance of a Santos corner, collects a pass just past midfield along the left flank and goes forward before cutting in then sending a shot from about 25 yards just wide. He looked dangerous there.
As I turn on the game, Castillo dribbles 40 yards on a counter and fires a good shot just wide of the far post. Passing was probably the better option, however as he had an overlapping runner and teammates at the top of the box.
