Same news in the weekly update. http://www.sjearthquakes.com/press_box/042604weekly.htm This means Eddie will be gone a long time, season ending? The rest of the back line needs to get healthy!
paging Ryan Cochrane.... Agoos and Dayak are too slow and will get torched by way too may strikers in this league.... and I just don't see Waibel as the answer.... boy, that trade for Chris Brown looks great now, eh?
Maybe new team trainer? This is really sad. I just watched the "We Believe" DVD, and Eddie's so funny. And he was so happy. Man, this is sad.
Horrible news! I am not sure what the answer is, but I know it isn't Waible with the lack of spead from Agoos. Can we turn Chris Brown into a defender? This sucks! Go Quakes!
Unfortunately true http://www.sjearthquakes.com/press_box/042704release.htm Looks like we have an opening on the roster, time to pick up a defender this time.
Damn, here's hoping Robinson makes a full recovery. New Quakes backline? Hart -- Dayak -- Agoos -- Dunivant
We should have never picked up another forward (Chris Brown). We needed another solid defender along with Hart. Agoos and Dayak still have something left in them, for sure, but they are getting older. Good luck Eddie, hope to see you back soon.
It's a shame. When he was on the field he was pretty good. Problem is he's been injured so often, it seemed he could never get much momentum built up. Lots of promise, hope he makes it back next year and has a strong, injury free rest of his career.
Boy, is that some bad news. I feel really bad for Eddie - he struggled with injuries last year and now this. Hopefully the Doc'll do a good job and Eddie'll be back better than new next season. Do the Quakes really have "an opening on their roster"? Can they put Eddie on IR and sign someone else to their 18-man roster? Do they have any salary cap room left? Inquring minds...
Today's Merc (see that thread) had this from Kinnear: "Kinnear indicated the Quakes do not have substantial room under the salary cap to shop for another defender, but said he is comfortable with the replacement options -- namely, Craig Waibel and rookie Ryan Cochrane. Waibel was the opening-day starter at right back and is a natural center back. Cochrane has been impressive in training sessions, enough that Kinnear said he wouldn't hesitate to play him."
This is indeed good to hear. Waibel's been the forgotten man lately, but he'll get plenty of chances before all is said and done. And it's great to hear that Cochrane has been impressive, at least training. He must be close to being at full health and hopefully we'll see him soon one way or another. And same for Dunivant: when is he going to be healthy? Talk about a nagging injury!!
Does anyone know where I can send Eddie a card? He came home to NC and I was able to meet him at the NC Soccer Show. He was so nice to everyone, spent lots of time with the young players, signed autographs, spent time with the wheel chair players and it was easy to tell how much he loves to play. I wanted to let him know we are thinking about him and wishing him well and we are really proud he's from North Carolina.
OK, maybe that's a little harsh. But, I really didn't see a lot of promise in his play, maybe he just needs more time to fit in. Apparently, the coaching staff of the Quakes didn't see a lot either, you must admit that was a pretty short appearance. We're definitely going to need a lot of offense this season, as beat up as we are at the back, but Troy did a good job and Goose was the fastest I've seen him since before WC'02.
Could be. But I think the coaching staff must have wanted him for some reason. Remember he scored that hat-trick for NE right after he got there and not long after that went down with an injury, which I understood he is just getting over.
