Has there been any interest from european clubs for eddie?

Has eddie indicated that he wants to play in europe?

Eddie's contract with MLS is up this offseason. I bet he tests the waters, and if he doesn't see anything he likes he'll come back. My guess is MLS can't pay him what he thinks he's worth, though. I mean, he's a grown ass man

Except the league has two option years.

He's here, at least for another season, unless somebody shows MLS the money.

it had better be BIG money to. DMB has shown that MLS can produce good, young, attacking field players. I'd say at least 5 Mill for EJ

    Then I'd say he's staying.

He's staying. No one will offer near that number.
DMB had a track record and resume that stretched a couple of years at a high level. WC, Confed Cup, Gold Cups, conssistent Nats performer...period.

Eddie's best bet is to keep doing what he's doing. Make it to the WC and excel.
Right now I can't imagine anyone paying anything over a mill, and that's iffy.

He's on the right track. Keep scoring Eddie, and the good offers will come soon enough.

A couple of goals in Azteca would be a nice way to make a splash.

If he keeps up his MLS form next year and scores multiple goals in Azteca then I could see him getting some serious offers. Right now I'm sure teams are looking at him, but they'll need to see that he's not a fluke.

Hell, MLS needs to work like hell to extend Eddie's contract by another 2 years. That way they can take advantage of him being in a WC (assuming he continues to play well and we qualify), which would boost his worth some. I really hope that they are making it happen.

hopefully they excercise the option with Eddie's full blessing.

does EJ have a choice in the matter or is it completly MLS' decision?

he's not a fluke. he's been a dominant goal scorer at every level to this point. U17, U20, tied for top goal scorer in MLS, and has scored some goals with USA. I don't see you can think that this is a fluke when he's done nothng BUT score goals.

now he needs to flesh out his game and become a complete forward who can create and finish. I have high hopes for this kid.

then so be it, MLS undersold DMB. Eddie probably will be more valuable because he's a striker. No way in hell should MLS undersell this kid.

    Are you on drugs?

You are the one who...forget it.

In your own mind I'm sure that you actually believe that statement. Holy cow.

Just to clarify my statements. Apoo went on a mth long rant about how MLS wasn't letting DMB go, and when S'hampton came in with their low ball offer he screamed bloody murder that MLS wasn't letting him go. Relentlessly.

Let players go cheap so they can prove themselves. Of course this isn't how the business world works (as if a WC proven Nats performer should be sold cheap because he is God forbid - and AMerican). Start low, stay low. Start high, stay high. Business 101.

I don't know. it could be an option if both sides agree. whatever happens, I think its time MLS cashes in. they can get some cash out of Eddie Johnson. I mean there is not single good reason to believe he WON'T turn into a superstar. he has every single tool needed. You think of some of Europe's soccer young striker stars such as Eto'o or Torres...and you think how much they are valued...well I think Eddie is in the same talent league as those guys.

    EDIT -

however, those guys are FAR more developed than Eddie Johnson. Really think he should stay in MLS for at least another season.

Demand in the marketplace drives up the price. There has yet to be a full-blown bidding war for a player straight out of MLS. Business 101. ;)

3+ years in the national team pool makes them veterans. Maybe not "senior" veterans, but veterans nonetheless.

Eddie Johnson could make an instant impact on Football Championship or some team in the Premiership like Blackburn or Crystal Palace. Eddie should defenitly try and get an offer from Europe he has proved that he can score goals and the MLS is not the League to improve. If someone wants to improve they should go to Europe good example is Landon Donovan if he wants an respect he should go to Europe also.

I think he's not going anywhere until the World Cup, but I also think there will be offers. He is a unique player (as opposed to other MLS'ers like Beasley and Convey) because of his physical atributes, very fews guys that big are also that fast and have shown they can score goals. I think that when a few teams learn about, he's going to be a major temptation. Actually I have an easier time seeing him go to a big club, who will see him as a project, someone they can mold into their future star. I think some teams might worry about his overall tactical and technical abilities, and wouldn't take him as an instant solution to their problems. But big clubs drool over guys with his athleticism and would be willing to bring him in and work with him.

I personally don't think he is the kind of player who can make a struggling team all of the sudden win. Although he isn't a poor finisher, he isn't a great one either and he doesn't really make opportunities for himself. He does make a great target for a strong midfield because he can both outrun you out muscle and outjump you, something very few players can do. I could see a club like Chelsea, Liverpool, Ajax, or even Juventus give him a shot, and I think he'd actually perform better, albeit with less playing time, than at a struggling Premiership team.

Ok the most anybody should pay for him is $3 million. He had 2 great matches for the USA but, it takes more like 10 matches to prove that you are a good player not just 2. He had a great world youth championship but, 3 of the 4 goals were penaltys. He has had a good season with FC Dallas. Ok so he has had one good season with FC Dallas but, it took Beasley like 3 years to get to Europe and he has been to a World Cup a Gold Cup World Cup Qualifiers etc etc.Should Johnson go to Europe now? YES. But the only league he could do well in his first season is The Championship or some lower Premiership clubs like Blackburn Palace etc etc.If someone like Arsenal offered money then he should decline he should try and get an offer from Fulham(WE NEED A FORWARD) Blackburn or someone else thats dosent have great talent already.
