Can anyone tell me how this works? Eddie Gaven is a Metrostars; however, does he get to practice with the team, why don't we see him in the bench at least? I heard he had a great game against Costa Rica on Monday with a goal and an assist. I know for now school is first for this kid, I'd just like to see him in uniform at least once in a game.
I think he is pretty much full time with the U-17 national team -- he belongs to the Metros, but we won't see him this year. The U-17 team lives and trains full time in Florida, where the kids attend high school.
Gavin will be with the U-17s until at least September. He leaves tonight for Korea for an international friendly tournament between Korea, US, Poland and Argentina. He'll be in Finland for the FIFA U-17 World Championship, which runs August 13-30. Conceivably, he'll be available after the US wins that tournament for the 9 remaining regular season games, and the playoffs. He could bring some nice speedy offense off the bench. Then again, Manchester United, or someone else, might make MLS an offer they can't refuse after his Silver Boot performance helps the US win the U-17 tourney - and he may never wear a Metro uniform.
