Interesting salary info from the Washington Post: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/07/06/AR2005070601876.html
All-right that is insane. I was 100% sure I had Eddie's salary number since he is on the same origional deal he signed when he was 17. So either he has a new deal that I (and everyone else) missed. Or that number is wrong.
Well there is is then. Cause that number they listed was the number I had him on from his origional P40 deal. So this is a new deal, they damn well have better gotten some extra years on it.
Hell yeah, they better have gotten some extra years on it! I wonder what his official cap number is going to be now? $300,000? And how on Earth are we going to stay under the cap without losing some of the depth we've built up? And when would his new cap number hit? Next year?
An interesting question springs to mind - why pay LD that much dough if he wasn't going to play anywhere but LA anyway? Seems like MLS would've had a pretty good bargaining position.
There are some ways, but it involves cuts and salary's coming down. That's a tlak for later in the season. yes next year.
There is only 1 reason for the contract. I bet there is an extension which pretty much guarantees a large transfer fee for MLS. MLS is taking a gamble, just like they did with Adu. Paying Eddie has nothing to do with FC Dallas and everything to do with MLS. We are the beneficiaries no doubt, but please don't think MLS is doing this for our benefit.
http://www.3rddegree.net/thirdindex.cfm?page=article&show=756 GE "We are not in a position to announce anything at this time. We knew a deal was close as it has been the stated position of the club, ownership, and league to protect the asset value of Eddie on our roster. This has been happening on an ownership level and I have been kept apprised, but I have no knowledge of such numbers or a completed deal. We know what his 2005 cap number is and are waiting to hear word of the deal as to his 2006 cap number."
Hopefully EJ will be in MLS for the long term now. EJ its time to get your own place and stop sleeping on Brian Haynes' couch.
It means that MLS is hoping to cash in big time when they do decide to sell him. The good thing is MLS can now bide their time on the sale rather then having to do something this offseason with the threat of an out of contract EJ looming on the horizon. This gives MLS much more negotiating room....and sets up what many people want to see, EJ kicking ass in WC06 and MLS cashing in on a HUGE transfer fee. Nooooooooooooooo!!!!!! Keep EJ grounded!!!!!
Needs a crib and a better set of wheels. From what I understand his current mode of transportation leaves something to be desired..... Actually taking care of his money and finding ways to invest in his future ought to be his priority and hopefuly that's what Coach Haynes has been counseling young EJ. Set an example for some of his young counterpart... I was listening on the Li'l ticket some of the horror stories that K. Mchale was relating about many of the NBA players that find themselves broke and heavily in debt after their playing days were over...
Old Dallas paradigm: Neglected stepchild of the league, playing at the decrepit Cotton Bowl and acquiring star players by swindling other teams. New Dallas paradigm: HSG's superclub, playing at their own brand-new stadium and home to a million-dollar home-grown player.
Hell no. Until EJ has a full season with no significant lapses in judgment, I hope he stays with Brian (if he will still have him.)
heh. I was congratulating him today at the luncheon for getting hooked up so phat, and he said "awww man, don't believe all that stuff they're saying in the papers"
