Great article by ed morgans. A few of us in the Nest thought Hristo had a great game, but all that could be heard were shouts, mostly from barra brava, to get "that (expletive) Stoitchkov" out of the game. Then again, when that section starts with the ever brilliant "F*** you ref!", it makes me wonder how many in that section are just drunken idiots who shout down the normally great Barra Brava residents. I love the Nest/Barra Brava, but sometimes it seems that the ignorant actions of a few tarnish the better actions of the rest. Why is it that the drunk people who probably know little about the game are so much louder then everyone else? cheers, jeff
that is a nice piece of writing ed, i didn't see his game to have been played quite that brightly but there were times you could see the skill and knowledge shine. my biggest problem was how long he played. the last minutes he was in his hands were on his knees, his workrate slowed down, etc. i thought he ran out of gas and needed to come out (i bet "coach" stoichkov would have pulled any other player that obviously tired out sooner than the player stoich would leave). the only people in the barra i heard shout about getting stoich out was when he was obviously winded. i heard him get numerous cheers during the match from the barra.
Behind the Game: United 3, Columbus 0 By Ed C. Morgans http://www.dcunited.com/index.cfm?section=main&cont_id=188659
Mr. Morgans shows he's big enough to admit he was wrong about Hristo, and in my book he rates "Mister". Perhaps he'll someday see that the AU incident was truly an accident. Regardless, my hat is off to him.
