i honestly think Carlos Tenorio messed up big time by staying in Qatar for so long.. i no its not all his fault bcuz the team had a big price on his head and didnt want 2 let him go, but as i recall he had a chance 2 leave and renewd his contract.......His value i think had gone down as his performance with the National Team hasnt been 2 that of what we saw at the world cup. I believ club teams have also sceen this.. i hope he gets signed by a good or decent club team because he does have talent that can benefit a squad where ever he ends up.

    GUERRÓN DAÑÓ UN NEGOCIO CERRADO
    | Fecha : 2008-06-05 10:05:53 |

Confirmed: Guerron to Getafe for >$4MUSD

    http://www.cre.com.ec/Desktop.aspx?Id=283&e=113355

I think it's a good move, his speed will be valuable in the Spanish league. Plus, my understanding is the move is partially motivated to attract the large Ecuadorian immigrant community in the area. This will help him adjust and possibly get good playing time right away.

well it's still a great thing for both the kid and Ecuadorian football. What's not comforting is they're also searching for a DT. And depending on who they are they can come into these situations with the "yo no fui el que lo pedi' attitude... Hopefully they find someone who can make a good decision!

[edit] 2004/05: First La Liga season

Getafe were historically promoted into La Liga by finishing second in the Spanish Segunda División. They were tipped by many to be relegated straight back down, and at first the chance of relegation appeared to be likely with Getafe having a bad start to the 2004/05 season, hanging around regularly in the relegation zone.
But a big improvement in form suddenly came along during the middle and towards the end of the campaign, and with good results being produced, including a win over Real Madrid, this was enough to eventually ensure an excellent 13th place on the table for Getafe, as they survived relegation comfortably with games to spare. As commonly happens ,they were the only promoted team that stayed up that season, as both Levante UD and CD Numancia were relegated straight back down.

    [edit] 2005/06: La Liga Consolidation

Their next season in the top-flight proved even better. Getafe had a solid start to the season and actually held pole position in the league for a week. However, late October and early November saw a slump in from as they crashed from the heady heights of Champions League qualification spots to mid-table. But the slide went no further and Getafe finished the season in a very respectable 9th position with 54 points. Their consistency and competitive spirit impressed pundits and fans alike and Getafe became regarded among the more difficult teams to beat in La Liga.
During the course of the season Getafe took several famous "scalps" with victories over quality teams like Valencia and Atlético Madrid. But their weapon up front was Serbian Veljko Paunovic who bagged 10 goals for the club. The Getafe left-back Pernía, with 10 goals (many of them spectacular or outrageous or both), played a big part in their success. During the 2006 World Cup, Pernía became Getafe's first ever Spanish international[10], before moving to Atlético.

    [edit] 2006/07: Further Progress

Getafe's 2006/07 season in the top-flight proved even better than past two seasons. With an imposing record at home in the Coliseum, Getafe became regarded as one of the toughest sides to beat in La Liga. They beat Real Madrid and held on to an impressive draw against previous year's La Liga winner Barcelona. Getafe CF ended in 9th place, just two spots below the qualification for the UEFA Cup, which they achieved with their performance in the Copa del Rey.
The seasonal highlight for Getafe however came on the return leg of the Copa del Rey semifinal against FC Barcelona played on May 10, in which they overturned a 5-2 deficit from the first leg with a stunning 4-0 domination in the Coliseum. Following on a glorious cup run with aggregate victories over Xerez, Valencia and Osasuna, this led Getafe to their first final in the Spanish domestic cup, the Copa del Rey. Sevilla eventually overcame them 1-0 in the final at the Bernabéu. However a new landmark was reached by the club with automatic qualification to the Uefa Cup for the first time in the clubs history due to Sevilla already qualifying for the Champions League.
Getafe resulted to have the best defence in La Liga in the 2006/07 season season, equalling FC Barcelona in having conceded only 33 goals in 38 matches. At home, they only conceded 11 goals in 19 matches. Goalkeeper "Pato" Abbondanzieri was judged the top keeper in La Liga for the campaign, winning the Zamora Trophy having recorded 12 clean sheets.

[edit] 2007/08: A step onto the Big Stage

The club went through a great deal of change during the summer close season. Bernd Schuster left to become head coach at Real Madrid and Getafe appointed a new head coach, former Real Madrid and FC Barcelona player Michael Laudrup. The playing staff changed as well with 7 players leaving the club including Alexis, Dani Güiza and Vivar Dorado. But the club made some intelligent signings as well to ensure they could compete on three fronts, including signing Rubén de la Red and Esteban Granero from Real Madrid. Getafe started the La Liga season poorly and the team was suffering greatly from all the change, it took them 7 games to record there first victory, but over the winter they steadied the ship and managed to accumulate more points on the board. This included two good wins, one at home to Barcelona beating the Catalan giants 2-0 and 0-1 controversial away win against Real Madrid which kept the team in mid table. But more importantly Michael Laudrup's attacking philosphy was getting wide recognition and Getafe was being well regarded as the team playing the best football of this season. However it was in the cup competions where Getafe were really excelling themselves.
On May 16, 2008 Michael Laudrup announced that he will leave the club after the season.[11]

    [edit] UEFA Cup

In the UEFA Cup the team managed to progress to the quarter finals recording historic wins against Tottenham Hotspur, Anderlecht, AEK and Benfica. Setting up an amazing quarter final tie against one of the European giants of football Bayern Munich and being the last surviving Spanish team in the competition. Franz Beckenbauer highlighted how far Getafe had come when he openly admitted of not knowing anything about the club. The first leg was in Munich and Getafe were outclassed in the first 30 minutes and found themselves 1-0 down. In the second half the team came to life with some top quality football and deservedly got an equalizer in the dying minutes of the game to set up a very interesting second leg tie in Getafe. This was going to be a grand day in the history of the club, so much so that King Juan Carlos and his son Prince Felipe attended the game. Only 6 minutes had passed when controversially the referee sent Getafe midfielder De la Red off, making a tough job even harder. Incredibly though Cosmin Contra came up again to put the home side in front on 30 minutes. Bayern tried to score the ilusive goal but it was the home side that should have increased the lead. All appeared lost for the Germans, but Franck Ribéry was on hand to volley home the equaliser on 89 minutes and send the game into extra-time. However, after saving their skins at the death, the additional 30 minutes began with a double disaster for the Bayern as first Javier Casquero and then sub Braulio netted to hand the astoundingly resilient home side a 3-1 advantage. Bayern struggled for much of the extra-time period but were suddenly thrown a lifeline when Luca Toni stabbed home from keeper Roberto Abbondanzieri's dreadful blunder on 115 minutes. The cause still seemed hopeless with the clock ticking down, but Munich never threw in the towel and veteran Oliver Kahn was up front and involved in the move which saw Toni head home from the last move of the match and earn his side a place in the semi-finals, a cruel way for the Getafe UEFA Cup run to come to an end.

    [edit] Copa del Rey

Getafe made relatively light work of reaching the Copa del Rey final for a second year running again, beating Racing Santander in the semi finals. Valencia managed by Ronald Koeman was going to be the opponent after they overcome Barcelona which also crucially meant that there was no easy route for Getafe into the UEFA Cup next season. After the teams exploits in UEFA Cup and with the way the team was playing, plus the fact that Ronald Koeman had not won many friends since arriving in Spain; primarily because he controversially dropped 3 of there star players, the majority of Spain had sided with Getafe. However suffering with injuries to key players Getafe was no match for a strong and talented team such as Valencia. 2 early goals virtually finished the game before it had started. They did manage to score a penalty which made the second half very exciting but a goal by Fernando Morientes goal finished the game and gave Valencia the trophy.

Great research! The teams past few seasons summarized in a few paragraphs!

I like the idea of him playing on a up-and-coming but not 1st tier team. He may struggle for playing time on a top team, and on a bottom team it's hard to play because they are always defending. It's easy to conclude from the improvement over the past few seasons that their management and owners are serious about building a strong club.

Hammers join the race for Ecuador frontman

WEST Ham are amongst a host of Premier League clubs thought to be weighing up a bid for Ecuador striker Carlos Tenorio.

The 29-year-old was linked with a move to Italian side Siena and France outfit Lille in 2006 but his current club - Al Saad in Qatar - turned down all offers for the pacy frontman.

However, after scoring over 100 goals for the Asian outfit, Tenorio has admitted that he is now looking for a fresh challenge - with England the preferred destination.

"I know that there is interest from several English teams in me because they have heard that I have scored more than 100 goals in Qatar," Tenorio told Ecuagoal.

"But I have to wait for what the officials of my team decide because they have told me that the want to renew my contract.

"I am waiting for a team to make an offer to Al Saad and if it's important for them and for me I would like to have the chance to live a new experience."

According to reports in Ecuador, Wigan, Manchester City, Sunderland, Birmingham, Bolton, Blackburn and the Hammers are all thought to be monitoring the situation.

    NGLATERRA PUGNA POR EL DEMOLEDOR
    | Fecha : 2008-06-11 15:18:18 |
