I am concerned with the fitness of our guys:

Benitez - missed last few matches with injury
Caicedo - not getting playing time at Man City pre-season matches
Campos - injured, out for two months
Mendez - injured for recent preseason matches with PSV
Guerron - only played a few minutes for Getafe pre-season matches

We need points badly and can't slip up in these next 4 games. Bolivia knows this, and will try to take advantage knowing the pressure we have to win. On paper, this is the easiest match of the rest of qualifying, but so was the game vs. Venezuela.

    The squad is announced tomorrow.

We have very good chances of beating Bolivia. That's all I'm going to say.

Re: Ecuador v. Bolivia - 2006 WC Qualifier

I must say since I started this thread, I'm feeling much better.

Benitez in particular is in fantastic form. He's scored 3 goals in his last 3 matches for Santos and Ecuador, and he has just been outstanding in his passing and playmaking. Did anybody see him against Chivas yesterday? The guy was tearing them up, although Vuoso got 3 goals, Benitez was the dominant attacking force.

Mendez played the full 90 for PSV this weekend as they won the Super Cup 2-0 against Feyernoord, and according to the PSV website he had an outstanding game.

Guerron played in Getafe's last pre-season friendly this weekend and can be seen on the front page of their website dribbling past a guy.

So basically, our main concern is of course at the striker position. Caicedo is not having good form recently and apparently Carlos Tenorio is having some sort of injury problems, which has resulted in Vizuete calling up Felix Borja

The striker situation is unfortunately becoming a real dilemma. This Bolivia match should be the last opportunity for one of these guys to show if they can score and start representing the shirt. If Tenorio is not available, I would start Benitez and Caicedo again and if he's not doing anything go with Borja at halftime. Assuming we're winning with about 20 minutes left (I don't want to assume any other scenario), I take out Benitez and see what Palacios can do.

Here's my 3-5-2 formation (btw Valencia is not available against Bolivia due to yellow cards):

    Cevallos
    Espinoza Hurtado Mina
    Castillo Urrutia
    Guerron Mendez Bolan~os (Ayovi 45')
    Benitez (Palacios 70')
    Caicedo (Borja 45')

I wonder why Cristian Noboa of Rubin Kazan is not getting noticed. He is scoring golazos in the Russian league and his team is in first place. Mina over Castro in defence? and Pablo Palacios def needs a chance, since the combination of Benitez, Caicedo and Tenorio have failed to score even a goal between them. that is just pathetic!! We needs guys who tap it in! I say Palacios, Salas and Kaviedes ( i know, he has no club, but DLC played when he wasnt even playing) and he is the only foward with goals, and he played only 90 minutes and has 2 goals! what does that say?? And COrtez over Quiroz?? WTF!! this is some kinda discrimination against our meztizo brothers.:(:(

Kaviedes? Are you out of your mind? At least DLC trained with the team and played with the reserves.

God knows what that kid has been doing.

Some how, some way, I have a weird feeling he will be back as our starting striker soon. Especially with Tenorio out, it's Kaviedes' for the taking if he wants it. For the record, him and Benitez had great chemistry against Peru.

I think Vizuete needs to book a flight to Russia. The Russian league is pretty strong, Zenit St. Petersburg won the UEFA Cup last year, and look how well Russia did in the Euro 2008. The kid is 23, so let's not wait until he's in his late 20's to prove himself like Palacios and Urrutia.

Dude where is DLC?? I still feel he's better then anyone we hae at that position right now and why not call up Noboa he's an excellent passer we could use a player like him in the middle instead of urrutia this guy has never really impressed me much on the NT.

Ok our lack of goals is really worrying me. I Think we need to go with a 4-4-2 with 2 strikers. I'd go with something like this.

    -----------------------------Elizaga--------------------------------

    ----Reasco-----------Castro-------------Espinosa---------Mina

    ----------------------------Castillo-----------------------------

    --------Guerron--------------Valencia----------------Bolanos(Benitez)

    ----------------------Caicedo----------Borja(Palacios)----------------

    Here is my line up:

    -----------------------------Cevallos--------------------------------

    ----Reasco-----------Hurtado-------------Espinoza---------Mina

    ------------------Castillo----------Urrutia-------------------

    --------Guerron--------------Mendez----------------Bolanos-----

    -----------------------------Benitez----------------

There are probaly two changes that Vizuete will make from my starting line up which I do not agree he will have
    1. W. Ayovi instead of Bolanos
    2. De Jesus instead of Reascos
    3. Valencia will not play this game suspended for one match b/c of yellow cards

I like it. Very LDU Quito with Mendez instead of Manso, and Benitez instead of Bieler.

Hey, has anyone seen Loraz?? With the WCQ coming up, it would not be a bad idea to have our own Mod in here!

who knew that there would be so much stress behind the ecuador-bolivia match...this is really a do-or-die for us, hopefully we can come out swinging, and golear like mofos....we need to win by at least 3 goals to start picking up some momentum and confidence for Uruguay...

Re: Ecuador v. Bolivia - 2006 WC Qualifier

    How does Borja get recognition??

this would be our best team

    ------------cevallos-----------
    --calle(campos)-castro---espinosa
    --------urrutia--castillo------------
    guerron--------------------ambrossi
    -----valencia(mendez)-bolanos------
    -------------palacios--------------

only reason i had Mendez was cuz Valencia is missing the game s Bolivia from suspension. our fowards cannot score when it matters. tenorio, benitez and caicedo have gotten chances but cannot tap it in. Kaviedes was our best foward i would seriously try to get his fitness up despite not having a team and so he can teach those guys how to score. In the mean time, Palacios can show them.

Hurtado is an accident waiting to happen (he is 34). Noboa deserves a shot also. He can play for Bolanos if he cant perform at the level he does for liga.

And Urrutia or Cevallos is the captain.

Re: Ecuador v. Bolivia - 2006 WC Qualifier

I dont like the lineups that have been posted that include only one forward up front....
    my team...

    ------------------------Elizaga----------------

    ----Hurtado-------------Espinoza---------Mina

    ---------------Castillo-----------urriutia----------

    Guerron(ayovi)-------Mendez----------Bolanos

    -----------Benitez------------Caicedo (palacios)----------------

palacios would enter at halftime if the score is tied or if caicedo has a bad first half
valencia would start in place of guerron, if he wasnt suspened
this is a must win we need 3 points badly!!!

Thanks for the mention! I would consider it if Loraz doesn't have the time. I'm not on every day either though so there may be someone even better suited(?).

It wouldn't hurt to have the two of you - you could both overlap and cover. I mean in all seriousness, I post on the Germany boards (club and country), the international FIFA and UEFA boards and Chelsea and occasionally go to a few other mainly to gather thoughts of a particular situation; be it a transfer or a game thread itself, and frankly, I think we all do a pretty good job at keeping this place civil. A lot of those other boards are a freakin' mess. Ever check out the MLS boards?

But it doesn't hurt to have a few "local" Mods around to help the regulars kkep things in order.

Agreed. For the most part, we are pretty civil except for the occasional troll from other parts of the forum.

I believe the game is at 5:00 ET but I'm not 100% on that, so if someone could verify, that would be great.
