Piero is losing that battle ,we need to adjust defense there, man I hate it when we can’t finish plays.

Agreed he’s getting eaten alive. He needs to stay back and overlap less. We’re not beating Ivory Coast with wing play.
Don’t think I’ve seen one Ecuadorian out pace an orange jersey today.

hoping we can squeeze out a win here boys

It’s a bad matchup. Minda (or Nilson if he gets subbed in) has to press and track back to help Piero defend Diomande.

Beccacece is a man with a 1 dimensional plan.

He should not come back to Ecuador.

We got smoked fair and square by a team that was head and shoulders above Ecuador.

we could’ve gotten lucky and scored the 1 or 2 crossbars and the game would’ve been different. But Ivory Coast decimated our wings - a myriad of clear chances for them and true build up play.

Only Yeboah and Vite showed up today.

Caicedo only played one good half and Hincapie should be stuck at CB.

true , but Ivory coast adjusted

Beccacece was on the sideline with his hands in his pockets acting like Darvin Ham

I think we need to study how Arsenal use hincapie first and foremost. He kept getting cooked by dio because he was gassed from running up and down.

Pervis should have been subbed in at some point.

Minda and ángulo seemed to have just come on vacation. Pretty horrendous showing. No heart and weak.

these is the same group of guys that got heart broken by Senegal. If they didn’t learn their lesson by now, can’t feel sorry for them.

Good play to Ivory Coast, that’s what happens when you don’t put away your chances. I hope those goals come against Curacao because this was a costly game to lose.

Beccacece made some terrible subs which killed the momentum. Nilson imo didn’t change much, Porozo was a head scratcher and the Rodriguez sub was a little too late. Yeboah coming off was a horrendous choice.

Something that needs to be touched on more is the importance of actual full backs. Hincapie and Franco struggled to defend. They adjusted to win we adjusted for the draw. Estupiñan and Preciado coming in with Hincapie and Pacho in the middle would’ve solved a lot of issue.

Hindsight is 20/20 but the substitutions should have been Estupiñan and Preciado coming on for Minda and Franco. Hincapié would have been there to back up Estupiñan if he got beat by his man. If Beccacece doesn’t trust Estupiñan then it could have been Medina otherwise why did you bring him.

I was surprised to see Porozo come on as a sub. I think Beccacece’s thinking was to shift Pacho left and have him help Hincapié when he got beat by his man? Finishing in second is going to be tough now unless Ivory Coast beats Germany and we beat Curaçao and Germany.

IMO Nilson should have try to foul his man on that last attack by Ivory Coast and stop the run ,if he got a red then we still had a chance to keep that tie.that Yeboah sub was wild

    Smoked???

No way... I watched the match with my German father who's only relation to Ecuador is his ex wife (my mother) and a bunch of other German/American buddies. Most that played in school or coached in school.

Ecuador had one issue. and I will agree with all of them. Could not finish. We hit the crossbar 3 times. THREE TIMES!!! The issue is not the play. Despite being labeled a defensive team, we went for it. We played for the win. We simply could not finish.

No way was Ivory Coast head and shoulders above Ecuador. The difference of the match was 5 seconds...not 90 minutes. They simply made a 5 second clinical play worth it while Ecuador lacked precision in the shooting. That said, if one issue existed was that the attacks rarely came from Ecuador's attackers. Fix that and maybe a ball would have gone n.

All he had to was grab his shirt. He would have gotten a yellow for sure but it would have stopped the attack.

Piero lost his man. Porozo and Ordoñez have their man covered but Hincapié went to help cover Porozo’s man and in doing so left his man open.

We can qualify as one of the 8 best 3rd place teams. Beat Curacao by a large margin and tie with Germany and hope Germany beat Ivory Coast to a pulp and their GD vs Curacao is not as wide..

There’s hope. Adjustments have to be made. Getting a result against Germany is going to be tough. If they beat Ivory Coast they’ll be flying high on confidence while Ecuador will be in a situation in which they have to obtain a result. This game was crucial.

Our singular focus has to be on running up the score in Curaçao. That is the mission.

I think the Ecuadorian press (especially those young journalists) were too busy riding the Pacho, Hincapie, and Caicedo celeb train and forgot to objectively look at the matchup where Ecuador, despite having strong players in certain positions, was heavily mismatched on context...speed and physicality defined the moments that turned this game into a nightmare for Ecuador.

We were dangerous and disrupted their defense many times in the first half, but we couldn't finish. As we settled into a game that was physically grinding, Ivory Coast's durability proved to be decisive. Their subs and insistence on pressing via the wings exposed our biggest weaknesses. The rest is history.

The western press that was calling Ecuador a dark horse also has to eat some crow, too. Ivory Coast walked into that game quiet, focused, and hungry...and I bet they were also feeling some kind of way for being discounted. When the hype train is strong, Ecuador usually underperforms. I think it's a mindset issue, and when we are expected to win, we stumble.

We have 2 big matches ahead of us, and our backs are against the wall. Regardless of what happens in this tournament, it's clear in my mind that Beccacece cannot lead this group any further. The FEF needs to dig deep into their pockets to hire an experienced international coach who can elevate the collective play of the squad to a level they don't even know they have.

Lastly, our quest for an heir to Enner's position thus far renders zero success. This might be our biggest question mark moving into the next tournament cycles, and I'm legitimately nervous here. Jordy, La Rola, and Campana are streaky at best. Most are used too late in a game to make a difference, and are probably not beating Enner in training to usurp the starting slot.

I am treading cautiously for the rest of the group stage with hopes our lads have been scared straight. God forbid we are grouped. It would be a colossal underachievement and a perfect testament to a delusional press corps that are fanboying our biggest names instead of objectively analyzing our team's real "ceiling".

The coach needs to absolutely leave. Any decent coach would keep the same gameplan in the 2nd half but this guy decides to switch it up.

Notable changes has to be putting Pervis in and moving Piero back to CB. Whoever is left wing has to track back. If Angulo fouled the runner before the goal, we would have been ok but I guess he lacks experience to make that call.

Your last thought is what my sentiment is rooted in. Ivory Coast’s attacks were more fluid and methodical with better (and when I say more/better I don’t mean necessarily good, but in comparison to Ecuador) build up play. While ours were usually a result of good high press that got us an opportunity for a quick strike.

I cannot think of a single line where Ecuador looked better than Ivory Coast - our attack was outsized by their defense, midfield was outmuscled by their midfield (especially in the second half), and our defense outpaced in an embarrassing way. Diomande had a career game against Piero. We’re talking about a recent breakout star 19 year old vs what’s supposed to be a solid experienced defender with multiple European finals under his belt (I blame Becca more than Piero on this). Edit: Galindez did have some solid interventions and think played better than their keeper.

I don’t think they played horrendous, and I can see them beating curaçao, but unless we beat Germany I really don’t see where “growth” is. 3 coaches in and we still haven’t fixed the offense, this is where it shows. We just need a better balanced squad.

He should be blaming the attackers for not finishing their chances.

Minda and Enner had the chances to kill the game but didn't.

Any other striker would have buried the opportunity Enner got.

We need to lineup like this

    Galindez
    Ordonez-Pacho-Hincapie-Estupinan
    Caicedo-Franco
    Yeboah-Vite-Minda
    Enner

Vite gets more freedom to playmake and sub out Franco in the 2nd half for Castillo. Vite isnt a slouch defensively but Minda has to track back.

We saw how not tracking back allowed opposing wingers to much freedom to roam.
