Good context! Also, totally agreed. Once again showing Beccacece's questionable judgement.

Out of all the prospects we've had Guagua is the one I like the least. I don't see the hype in him and we could have called someone else up in his place.

As for the team, I hope Plata has a good showing. He's the key to opening up the attack by dragging players and passing when the defense is opened.

Idk if u guys have seen but a lot of our starters, a majority of them. have stated and made it very clear that they don't fear no country and that we can reach the final. if they have that belief I think its amazing for them to have. it shows the slow transition were having from a small footballing nation into a larger one and this is our tournament. we can only watch from now but lets hope for the best

I think that detail speaks volumes about where our futbol today and how we've developed. Long gone are the days of Bolillo Gomez's "venimos al mundial para aprender" mentality. It's also a testament to our crop of lads who have gone to Europe (or abroad) at younger ages and have been succeeding...and it's no longer such an aberration to see a mega transfer signing like when AV25 went from Wigan to United while also being the only guy on the 23 man roster at an elite club.

    We've come a long way!!

But one thing is the guys speaking it out loud and saying they believe it, and another thing is if they show it for a full 90 mins during each and every outing with ninjaike discipline. The gold standard, to date, for Ecuador is the '06 team that scored 5 goals in 3 games with 2 clean sheets in their first 3 matches and qualified to R16.

Love to see IDV just keep churning them out.

Anyone watch costa de marfil today? That teams not afraid of attacking anyone.

Antwerp has set their sights on Ecuadorian players - Pacho, Anthony Valencia, Fronny Caicedo, Mejia. I think Fricio Caicedo is set to join them as well. Snayder Porozo has been linked to them as well in the last couple of days.

The Porozo kid is an Aucas product, right?

Yes. Aucas has some talented young players on their squad - Porozo, Alex Zova, Piero Guzman, Robino Quiñonez, Virgilio Olaya.

A rising tide lifts all boats, and IDV's success will hopefully allow other squads to reap some benefit, too. Aucas did it previously, and Liga has also shown some evidence of this, too. Time to scale it up!

Still annoyed that Keny wasn't called up. He would have been a good super sub who can play as a winger or a 10.

Paez is too slow to play as a winger. At this point Ecuador may have to transition him to CM a la Xavi or an anchor like Pirlo.

Ecuadorian teams are going to have to invest in their youth development if they want to have any chance of competing with IDV. IDV is set up to dominate for the foreseeable future. The old models simply won’t cut it.

That's a foregone conclusion. Nobody will replicate what IDV did unless they somehow fall into some life changing money.

But if IDV keeps selling and foreign scouts keep coming, nothing will prohibit scouts from visiting other canteras. As evidence with what has been done re: Aucas or Liga. The only difference will be that IDV can show off a cantera with dozens of highly rated prospects and other squads will likely have a mere handful of gems to show off...and less bargaining power because IDV has the brand name.

Discretionary cash would need to sit at $20 million cash just to start the project, and it'll take at least six years to see any meaningful impact.

The closest team to IDV in terms of speed to implement such a monumental project would be Liga...assuming they qualify for the CWC and can miraculously pull off another title in the CL (PURELY hypothetical).

It would break down as follows:
    Winning CL: 25 million + 8.25 million (group stage-semis funds) = 33.25 million
    CWC participation: 15 million
I am not factoring round advancement but the numbers jump REALLY high for each round thereafter.

In that case, Liga would likely burn 24M in debts to truly start with a clean slate and be left with slightly over 24M to invest in that project. Some money would be reinvested back into the transfer market, and god forbid the socios start asking for dividends. This is probably the only way (and it's also a shortcut to how IDV did it).

Theoretical, of course. But the biggest obstacle might not be the money. I think it's the patience of the board of directors and total buy-in to the methodology itself. Trusting that system and possibly sacrificing on field performance is not something I see fans, or the board, accepting for too long.

IDV launched with almost nothing, and to their advantage, it was the perfect way to kick start a 13+year project (to date). No fans, no pressure, entrepreneurs with a business plan, and discipline to stick to that model. The rest is history.

Seems like Felipe Luis wants to bring Plata to Monaco.

I think the French league would suit him well.

What a life, jajaja. I was just watching the qualifying to the Monaco grand prix. Truly a luxurious place. Nice memories there. It's an interesting club and it gets him back to Europe. Perhaps it goes through...we'll see after the WC.

If it's too nice then we probably gotta worry about him partying again lmao

But the one good thing about the French league is that it allows wingers to play freely without hard tackles.

Plata is going to party. There’s no changing him. You just gotta hope he doesn’t fall off the deep end.

Crazy to think he's the only one from the U20 champions that was able to stay on the NT.

I'm hoping the team is keeping him focused because we'll need him at 100% vs Ivory Coast to open up their defenses.

Ramirez, Porozo, and Alcivar were also part of the 2019 U20 NT. Plata has arguably had the best career thus far.

Their call ups are inconsistent I meant. Heck Porozo didn't play qualifiers but still made the world cup.

However, Porozo has shown he can hang with the rest of the defense.

Yeboah is such a good player. Tracks back, knows when to pass, and isn't afraid to dribble.

He could be the revelation for us this world cup.
