Might have been discussed but why is Yeboah playing as a false 9? Were are our other strikers? Yeboah scored one goal in 33 matches and got relegated.
Because Enner is injured. The same goes for Campana and Plata. Campana might be healthy enough for Matchday 16, but Plata had to go back to Brazil.
We should have had a penalty on Rodriguez by Casemiro Besides that we didn't do bad but I am annoyed with how much the ref bought Brazil's diving
Not a bad game ,we certainly tried, but it’s Brazil so I’ll take that point, just sucks that we’re playing without a striker.
IMO I thought we played a solid game; despite the lack of a goal, we looked like the better team all night. The one take away i hope Beccacece took, is the importance of using players in their correct positions. I felt like the game improved for when we put an actual LB and CF in. I think we are set defensively and in the midfield it’s just that offensive we haven’t come up with a solution outside of an aging Enner Valencia. I hope we line-up a bit more offensively vs Peru. Galindez; Preciado, Pacho, Hincapie, Pervis; Caicedo, Franco; Yeboah, Vite, Angulo; Rodriguez, Would be interesting to see
I think Ecuador played a solid game. Moises, Hincapie, and Pacho were pure class. It seemed like Valle was nervous at first but he settled in nicely. Estupiñan was solid overall upset for that turnover that could have proved costly. Ordońez did well against Vinicius. Not playing with a traditional striker was a detriment.
Vite needs to leave to Europe in the summer. The kid does everything well and doesnt stop running. Hopefully Roma pick him up because he is the perfect mid for Gasperini's system. Angulo deserves a shoutout as well. He didn't win every duel but the confidence from the kid to keep trying is admirable since he created a lot of danger on that left side.
My thoughts: The boys played a solid defensive game. Controlled every facet of the field with a few exceptions. Brazil had maybe 2-3 real chances. The problem is: Ecuador didn't have the same clear chances as Brazil even though they dominated. What's the hesitancy of Becca starting some 9s from the serie A? Valle looked great, Caicedo debuted in the last cycle of eliminatorias while playing for IDV and look at him now, Ecuador played with 90% of a serie A squad in 2002 when they broke 30+ points in conmebol... so why's he not looking at these fellas?
Exactly. It makes no sense to act exclusionary when the cupboard is empty. So in his logic, LigaPro players can’t cut the squad up front and the decision is to call up injured players who will get sent back and it’s too late to find alternatives because slots are fixed. Considering he didn’t even try to look at Keny Arroyo, Sarmiento, or the guys playing in Greece…all under the guise of Plata, Kendry, Campana all belong in this cycle’s matches because they’re “a part of the process”. let’s just assume Parrales gets called up and scores- great. Play him again. Maybe he does well in Peru…what’s the headache? We found another player that adds competition to the role and it forces others who got the call up in past games to elevate their game or risk getting overlooked. Good, healthy, and merit based competition fuels excellence and it seems like Becca just wants to be complacent. For all the grief I used to give Alfaro for cautious tactics and a lack of a strong hand with the squad, at least he was never foolish enough to know a guy was injured and still make him travel to waste time and not add value.
Beccacece es necio. I could be wrong but that's how it seems. He knew going into the game that Campana and Enner were injured. The only other true striker he called up to the squad was Rodriguez. I'm not sure why he didn't start. The defense was solid and the midfielders held their own. The issue was the attack. Minda had a subpar game. Nilson and Yeboah tried their best but playing without a #9 hindered them. It's frustrating because there's players playing in Liga Pro that could have helped out - Parrales, Estrada, Danny Valencia, Tigre Palacios. Should they be brought to the WC? Probably not but they could have been useful.
It seems like Beccacece wants to manage the NT like he would a club. If a player is not performing at club level the team is not going to tell the player to not show up for training. The player will be part of training sessions and be part of the team. On game days he may not start or get minutes but he'll still travel with the team. Seasons are long and players will go through ups and downs. A coach is not going to drop a player at the first sign of trouble because he may lose him for the whole season. The NT is different. The best players should get called up. If a player isn’t getting minutes or playing well then he shouldn't be called up. Players in good form should be rewarded. The margin of error when it comes to international play is minimal. What if the WC were right now. Would he have named Campana, Plata, and Enner to the squad even though they're injured. What about Kendry who hasn't played in months. Can he be trusted to contribute even tho he's not in form?
He’s played in 9 games this season and has scored two goals. He battled a couple of injuries this season which isn’t uncommon for him. Campana can be a good depth player for the NT but he’s not the answer at the position. One player to keep an eye on is Justin Cuero. He’s young and has potential. He’ll get playing time with Emelec. We’ll see how he does.
He could have been "the guy" but when he had his chances, he just didn't do enough to justify getting called back. Whether as a sub or a starter, he always just seemed to fade into the background. At most, as you mentioned, he's a depth player with the hopes that on some occasions he can contribute a goal or an assist.
We just need a CF to pull defenders so our wingers can score. I could care less if the CF doesnt score as long as he runs hard.
He's still a maybe to start. If he does, he'll only play one half. If he doesn't start, Rodriguez gets the nod and Enner will finish off in the 2nd, which is usually when he's least effective because the rest of the squad tires out.
https://www.futbolecuador.com/site/...catoria-del-estadio-olimpico-atahualpa/161379 That stadium, for all its past glory and sentimental value to Quiteños is an absolute disgrace. It should have been clear 4 years ago when FEF decided to play qualifier matches in the Casa Blanca that the Atahualpa was a problem that required immediate resolution from the Pichincha sporting federation. I've seen the Atahualpa's degradation since I first attended a qualifiers match there a kid back in the 2002 qualifier campaign...it's never really gotten nicer. The only saving grace was the nice pitch, but everything else is just sad. They would even store the blocks of ice for chilling beers in the mens restroom which was just one massive piss trough. Gross af. Their announcement is too little too late. Let the city take it over and finally start setting some REAL renovation work. Ecuadorians deserve a home for the NT up to international standard. No touch ups are enough to remedy such a decaying asset.
